We want to make sure that this works well and to review community feedback before we tell you all how to use this system for your homebrew subclasses, spells etc. The last thing we want is for you all to make a bunch of homebrew content and then we make some changes to this system, due to feedback. We absolutely will make sure to write up information on how to use this for homebrew, with appropriate screenshots and we expect that to be fairly soon. 😊
If I recall, the 5e PHB came out in Nov/Dec 2014, and DDB launched in August of 2017, but they didn’t make the Disciple of Life feature functional for official content until earlier this year in March of 2021. That means, after 2 & ½ years of advanced notice, it still took them almost 4 years to make that feature functional. Around here, "fairly soon" doesn't mean what it means everywhere else. If they still haven't implemented it for homebrew spells by the time 5.5e is released in 2024, then we will be able to reasonably state that "fairly soon" will have expired. For now, passing the time with a worthwhile endeavor may make the time go by faster (perhaps something like watching paint dry, grass grow, or water boil).
Sorry to dredge this up but is there a fix or workaround for this. I'm trying to create a subclass with Disciple of life in it and it doesn't add the spell level to the bonus, even if you just do a straight copy with not edits from life Domain.
Huh a ping? -- Oh wow this takes me back. DDB's rate of implementation of features must be a joke. I made a module for this long ago, and a million other bonuses just like it, for use on Foundry VTT. Next you'll tell me they still haven't implemented Tasha's sorcerer features and such. You want functional sheets, DDB ain't it.
Ever since WOTC bought DDB and especially now with the OGL and behind the scenes leaks, it has become quite apparent, that Homebrew content is not only low on the priority list, but in fact absolutely hated by the ******* in chief C.C.
Don't expect anything changing for homebrew support. Ever. There is no money for WOTC in it, so why invest time and resources?
Hey.
We still have a big issue with the Disciple of Life modifier in combination with homebrews.
1) A homebrew spell with the healing tag is not correctly improved by the Life Cleric's feature
2) Adding the modifier to a homebrew subclass/feat/etc. does nothing. It doesn't improve the healing of existing spells or homebrew ones.
I set up a homebrew spell exactly like cure wounds, and yeah, it got no benefit from Disciple of Life.

Nope, no workaround that I know of. It just don’t work for homebrew. 🤷♂️
