I'm new to using DND Beyond and have just purchased the Tomb of Annihilation campaign book for a new group I'm DMing for. I've shared it with the campaign I've created, however, I don't have the core rulebooks on here yet. I am reluctant to spend another $75 as I already have them in physical and Roll20 formats.
My question is: Will the player's characters be limited to what they can include in their characters if the campaign they are part of does not share the core rulebooks? i.e. will non-basic rules content such as background only appear as an option for them if I'm sharing the PHB to the campaign? Or, if the player owns the PHB they have access to it regardless of if I'm sharing the PHB or not?
If no one in your campaign has a master tier subscription and has enabled content sharing in that campaign:
Everyone will have access to everything in the Basic Rules and the Elemental Evil Player's Companion.
Everyone will have access to any homebrew that is in any of the players' collections.
Each player will have access to the anything they have individually purchased. IE. if Tom has purchased the PHB, Tom will have access to everything in the PHB.
If anyone in that campaign has a master tier subscription and turns on content sharing:
Everyone will have access to all of the content in Tomb of Annihilation. 2 backgrounds, 10 magic items, 51 monsters.
Everyone will have access to any other purchased content that anyone else has purchased. IE. Tom has purchased the PHB. Bill turns on content sharing from his master tier subscription. Everyone will have access to the PHB.
Note that since homebrew is shared, even without a master tier account, you can use the homebrew tools to make things from the books you have in print. Use the most similar item from the basic rules (ie, if you're making a Cleric subclass, use the free one and tweak individual elements accordingly) to get you started.
