Trying to prepare to run the Strixhaven Curriculum of Chaos book as a campaign in a few weeks, and my friends are choosing to use the strixhaven backgrounds for their characters.
All of them have went ahead and purchased the background(s) that they need, as well as the spells and feats on DND beyond. However, we are noticing that the backgrounds are not including the Strixhaven initiate feat on their character sheets as it should.
The backgrounds presented in Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos introduce a new game mechanic that grants you a Feat after taking the selected Background. While our developers are hard at work adding functionality for this, you can manually add the relevant Strixhaven Initiate feat to your character via the Features & Traits section in the Character Sheet, then clicking on "Manage Feats". Please reference the image below.
CHARACTER OPTIONS: FEATS
To fully support the Strixhaven Initiate feat, it has been split within the system. The feat has been subdivided by College and the ability score tied to it. As shown in the screenshot below, if your character wanted to be a part of the Lorehold College and selected Intelligence as their spellcasting modifier for those spells, you would select the Strixhaven Initiate (Lorehold - Intelligence) Feat.
The Strixhaven Mascot requires characters to be at least level 4 and they must have the Strixhaven Initiate feat. While the system does not currently observe the restriction requiring the Strixhaven Initiate feat, please note that the system will enforce the prerequisite of being at least level 4 (unless "Use Prerequisites" is set to off in the character builder). You can access your mascot’s statblock via the Extras section of the character sheet (as seen in the image below).
I've manually added the feats to characters of mine that'll be using them, but I can't seem to add the spells given by the feat to the actual character. They don't show up as spell options when I try to add the spells manually through the "manage spells" option, and the feat doesn't seem to add a choice selector for adding the cantrips and first level spell. Anyone happen to know how to deal with this? Or is this just a bug they still need to work out and I'll have to bear with until it's fixed?

In Manage Feats, once you've added the feat, there's a ! in a blue circle, meaning there's something that you haven't chosen yet. Unfortunately these Strixhaven feats have a looong description before you see the actual dropdowns where you can choose the spells, so you'll need to scroll past all that to see them.
I'm having a similar issue, I've been able to add Shield of Faith from my Silverquill background but I can't have both Shield of Faith and Silvery Barbs like I'm supposed to. My solution for the moment has been to add Magic Initiate and put Silvery Barbs in that way, but isn't Silvery Barbs just automatically supposed to be part of my spell list?

What Class is your character? The Strixhaven Silverquill background feat gives you access to 2 out of 3 specific cantrips and just 1 spell of 1st level from the Bard or Cleric spell list, so you can only pick the 1 leveled spell from the feat. And unless you're a Bard, Sorcerer or Wizard, you wouldn't have Silvery Barbs on your class spell list.
Edit: Oh, hang on, you're supposed to have the special Silverquill spells added to your spell list via the background. I'll see what might be going on.
Edit2: On a test character I'm able to add Silvery Barbs via Manage Spells; the spell would have a little (+) to the left of it in the Add Spells section. The spell is added to the set of spells you can pick from for your class spells, but it's not automatically added to your spells.

No, you only get one 1st-level spell from each of those feats, not two.
I’m having an issue with the strixhaven initiate as well, and the blue ! Isn’t showing up for me to finish adding the spells. I’m doing the witherbloom initiate, for a warlock, and it’s not allowing me to add the spells through the feat or through manage spells.

I eventually managed to get it to work by going to Manage Feats in the character sheet. If you scroll down far enough, the blue ! should be in there.
I’ve scrolled as far as I could. I saw a green dash but it didn’t do anything
What device are you using? Might potentially be an error on your end. I just double checked on one of my characters with the background and feat, and it appears to still be functioning properly.
If anyone is still active in this thread, i am having the opposite problem. Our group doesnt have the strixhaven source book and yet we were able to add the prismari students background and gain the strixhaven initiate feat. is this a bug?
@Iamsposta: yes I have checked my share content list. no one has access to that book. I dont know if we can have portions of it. I checked my "allow content" setting and I noticed that my campaign by default has "MTG content" turn on. I am wondering if that is why since Strixhaven is a MTG thing right?
That list is irrelevant. It only restrict access to compendium contact, not player options. If someone purchased a portion of the book for themselves, they would not have access to the compendium, and therefore it would not appear on that list. However, their player options would automatically be shared as soon as Contant sharing is enabled. There is no way to restrict player options in content sharing.
@Iamsposta I was able to fix the problem. I turned off the MTG content in character preferences for my players and immediately the strixhaven background is gone as an option for players.
Thank you. I asked my group and they all said that they dont have it. So i am still confused on how the strixhaven initiate background got include for my players during character creation. one of my player is sad that they couldnt use that background in a stormking thunder campaign lol.

At this time, you need to add the feats manually (via Manage Feats from the character sheet, Features & Traits section.)

Yes, by turning off that setting it hides that content from the players. But the content is still technically be shared.
