I am currently playing a rogue with expertise in Slight of hand and I picked up the gloves of thievery. I have a 20 in Dex and a proficiency of +4 so if I understand how it works correctly it should be Dex bonus plus profencency doubled for expertise plus the gloves.
Dex + Proficiency + Proficiency again from expertise + Gloves bonus
5 + 4 + 4 + 5 = 18
What D&Dbeyond is show is a +23
The character builder shows me as a +13 before the gloves and a +23 after I equip/wear the gloves.
Now when I first got the gloves a few months ago I saw this and cleared it with my DM via text. During an encounter I used my +23 slight of hand to steal the component pouch of a lvl 17 wizard and the DM is deciding that +23 is too broken and there must be something wrong. He said I can keep the +23 if there is something stating that this is the correct math but he thinks its a bug with D&Dbeyond and I am currently playing with a +18.
It should be +5, for +18 total. That's what I get when I equip it to test. Check and see if you're using an incorrectly made homebrew version of the gloves instead of the ones from the DMG. If it's homebrew, when you click on the item and look at it in the sidebar, under where it says 'weight' and 'cost' it will also say 'version.'
It’s doubling your Dex bonus because you selected Dex as the ability score. Remove that and it should work properly. All you want is as follows:
Modifier: Bonus->Subtype: Sleight of Hand->Fixed Value: 5
Don’t forget to re-save the item after adjusting your Morifier, and remember it can take a while to update in the system, and you might need to remove the item from the character and add it back again.
Is there a bug in D&D Beyond?

Can someone help me and shed some light on this?

Did you equip the gloves of thievery, or living gloves?
We’ll be able to tell you if it’s bad homebrew like pocketmouse suggests, or if it’s something else if you post a link like I suggested.

Thank you both, @IamSposta here is the link https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/85190573
pocketmouse there is a version number so I am guessing that I created this as a HB item so there must be a mistake in there.
I found it in my homebrew creations, below are the stats
Modifier type - Bonus
Modifier subtype - Sleight of Hand
Ability score - Dex
Fixed Value - 5
