I've made a character for an upcoming campaign I am in and discovered that I cannot select the Herbalism Kit as a tool proficiency. The character is an Alchemist Artificer, and it is not listed in his current proficiencies list either.

That’s because while an herbalism kit is a tool, it is not an artisan’s tool. See: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/equipment#Tools)?
