We've ran into an issue recently for a character in our game. None of the players or the DM in our game can access the spells section for him at all. It was working fine up until recently and we can access/change equipment, feats, etc. It's just the spells that are bugged out.
When we try to access them we get redirected to the beholder error page with the following code: 872a9443fdd64578b6bb5844c6b1dbe3
Weve tried changing his level, his casting stat, and just generally waiting for it to sort itself out but it's still bugged. Anybody have this happen before?
Looks like a piece of homebrew is causing the issue. To determine this, I took notes of each homebrew option and began to unequip or remove them one by one to determine the culprit. Was it Professor Plum in the Library? No, it was...
The jar of worms!
It looks like the item can cast the Water Breathing spell using between 1 to 25 charges. This range should be a maximum of 7 (1-7), as Water Breathing is a 3rd level spell, so the highest it could be 'upcast' is level 9, so a total of 7 charges. However, as there is no benefit to casting the spell at a higher level, you may be best off by making this a minimum and maximum of 1 charge. However, if you go above 7, it will likely cause this error to occur, as it's telling the sheet on the spells page to generate water breathing at 3rd to 18th level!
For now, I have unequipped the item for you, so the player should be able to access the spells list again.
I bow to your wisdom! We're super new to 5e (besides far too many hours watching Mercer work his magic) and took charges to be the total uses it has before it's spent.
I'm having a similar issue. I have a magical shortsword that allows me to cast lightning bolt, but I can't get to the spells section to add it - but my character has not cast spells before.
No, you can’t just add a normal +1 shortsword and add the spell to your character sheet, it needs to be a shortsword specifically designed to add the spell. If your DM hasn’t created it for you you’ll have to create it yourself. You can do it here: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-magic-item). You can add the spell under the Spells section, and don’t forget to add Charges under Additional Information. If you need more help, just lemme know.

Hi AngeliDiMorte6,
Can you please link the affected character? Use the address bar URL, not the share link. :)
Thank you!
Linked! He's our take on a ported over inquisitor from Pathfinder :)

I just added a plus 1 shortsword to my inventory. I'm not sure if that was the wrong way to do it.
