I created a home brew spear for my hexblade, intending to give it a CHA based 1d6 melee weapon attack. I added the Modifier, Melee Weapon Attack, Subtype Piercing, Ability Score CHA, Dice Count 1, Die Type D6, hit save. Added the weapon to my character. Checked the weapon entry on the character sheet and it still only has a STR based melee attack. No change to the item.

Currently, the best way to implement pact weapons is via the Customize option in the Attack section of the character sheet.
The melee weapon attack modifier when homebrewing an item does not change how the base weapon works.
There are plans to implement automatic selection a pact weapon.
Thanks for taking the time to reply
Any updates on when the feature of items will be implemented?
Obviously no plans to implement this
Really annoying that they have this option there that literally does nothing -_- I'm just trying to make a bladed shield that be used to make attacks
