Hey all, Im planning a Italian Renaissance campaign and have started creating classes for It. this is my first time trying to create homebrew mechanics on DNDBeyond. My question is this: Im creating a Paladin subclass "Crusader" and when I went to test this out, at level 3 I tried to setup an option to Pick one or the other paladin "oath" spells as magic wont be a very prominent thing in this psuedo-historical setting, but in the Char creation it is giving me both of the spell choices for level 5 and 13. Not sure what I did wrong when I set up the spells for the ability. any help would be appreciated. BTW Im working off of a oath of devotion template. Ive already done the following:
Set class level where choices are known tp 3,5,9,13,17
Set the specific spells to only be available at 5 and 13 respectively
Ive also looked at the FAQ and walk throughs by GPyromania
Whenever you set up any subclass feature to present a choice of spells to the player, it will always automatically present that choice at the level at which the feature itself is set in the character builder. However, it won’t actually grant that spell to the character until the designated level. So, if you design a 3rd level feature to give them a choice of one 1st-level spell from a list right away, and another choice of a 2nd-level spell at level 5, then it will let them choose that 2nd-level spell right away at level 3 if they want to, but won’t actually give them the spell on their character sheet until level 5. If you only grant a single spell without the player needing to make a choice then it won’t be an issue at all.
Yeah I grabbed the FAQ from another one of your posts. I figured it out by using options function under the Specific class Feature. It isnt the prettiest thing in the world just cause it has a redundant drop down menu, but it works. TY

GPyro’s walkthroughs are indeed very, very helpful. In addition, you can also find additional helpful information in the Homebrewer’s “How-To” FAQs: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq).

Why a redundant dropdown? You don’t really need Options to present a choice of spells.
