You don't need to enter --. Typing anything that's not a number would do the same, but you can also just delete the number.
This actually does not work if you're doing this in the character builder via the little "Manage HP" button that appears on the Class tab. Entering a non-numerical value, or nothing, just causes it to reset to 1 when you click "Apply".
Clearing the field out does work if you're doing it on the character sheet via the "HP Management" sidebar that comes up when you click on the HP numbers.
I mistakenly entered a value in my Max HP Override and now I can't clear that out or reset it. Is there a way to do that?
You have to delete the contents of that field, don’t try setting it to “0” or anything.
