I have a Wizard 2 / Rogue (Arcane Trickster) 3 character in D&D Beyond. When I added Wizard 2, it properly realized that by multiclassing rules I have 2nd level spell slots as a 3rd level caster. However, it will not let me add any 2nd level spells to the Wizard spellbook. It only lets me add more 1st level spells.
Per the Wizard spellcasting feature, since I *have* 2nd level spell slots, I can learn and prepare 2nd level spells but the D&D interface won't let me add any 2nd level spell to the character.
The Wizard feature for being able prepare spells and to gain more spells through copying are pretty clear:
You prepare the list of WizardSpells that are available for you to cast. To do so, choose a number of WizardSpells from your Spellbook equal to your Intelligence modifier + your Wizard level (minimum of one spell). The Spells must be of a level for which you have Spell Slots.
...
Copying a Spell into the Book: When you find a Wizard spell of 1st Level or higher, you can add it to your Spellbookif it is of a Spell Level you can prepare and if you can spare the time to decipher and copy it.
The character HAS second level spell slots from multi-classing, and the D&D Beyond character tool shows this properly. It's just the Wizard spellbook management that's not respecting the availability the slots.
The Multiclassing rules in the Players Handbook are very clear. If you have two classes with the Spellcasting feature, you must follow the rules in the Multiclassing section instead of the features themselves.
Within the Preparing Spells section, it clarifies that you prepare spells independently as if you were single-classed characters of the appropriate levels, using Wizard as an example. A level 2 Wizard only has access to level 1 spells.

You earn spells as if you haven’t multiclassed, therefore the system is behaving correctly.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the clarification.
