I had applied a net to my character sheet and realized that it was not showing in the bonus action or reaction menu as an option. The description text is as follows:
"When you use an action, bonus action, or reaction to attack with a net, you can make only one attack regardless of the number of attacks you can normally make."
I believe that the Net should also show in the bonus action and reaction sections of the character sheet. It would greatly help new players use this weapon more if they could immediately see this weapon in these menus. I don't know many people that use a net mainly because they just don't know how powerful it could be.
The reaction that you can make with it is the same one that you can make with any melee weapon - an opportunity attack, which is listed under the reaction section of the character sheet. :)
Also bonus action - you can only use the net as a bonus action in the way you could any other qualifying melee weapon.
That's what I'm saying. My character only shows a net action under my action page, I'm suggesting it also show in bonus action and reaction sections when selected. Not the current case on my sheet .
As always ask your dn first, but I personally let my players use the net as ither an action, bonus action, or a reaction on their turn because of the fact that it's a martial weapon.
Yeah, it takes both Sharpshooter & Crossbow Expert to make Net’s suck just enough less to make them frustrating because of how flimsy they are. But nets are not melee weapons, they are ranged, and so I don’t think they can be used for Opportunity Attacks.
I've found one non-Feat-dependent way to use a net with advantage: Hide inside a Minor Illusion of a barrel right next to where the enemy is going to be, and ready an action to throw the net onto them.
Otherwise, I think it's possible to have someone Help you throw the net to at least cancel out the disadvantage?

I think that it would work better as a viable combat tactic if you were able to dual-wield it alongside another weapon. You'd still have disadvantage to hit, but at least you could still use that as a bonus action instead of probably wasting your entire action throwing it. (Also seeing as the net doesn't actually damage the opponent the restrictions that come from two weapon fighting wouldn't have any effect.)
However, nets are thrown, and so technically can't be dual-wielded, but I think that an exception in the case of a net would function really well, and make it a viable option for newer players.

as i am reading it.. the Net is a ranged weapon and since ranged weapons do not produce threatened areas, Attacks of Opportunity do not apply to them.

It's also worth noting that attacks with a net are always at disadvantage.
It's a ranged weapon, so at disadvantage in melee range.
At 10 ft range, it's at long range and therefore at disadvantage.

Would using a net not as intended make it improvised, and as such qualify for attack of opportunity?
