I just thougt of a really cool character concept, but I need artificer for that. I saw that you can buy its subclasses and leave the rest of Tasha's, but do you get the main artificer class with it?

Perhaps I just missed it.

Yes, if you buy any of the four subclasses you automatically unlock the main class as well.

If you want the Optional Class Features too though, then you will need to buy the whole book and not just the subclasses.

There are no Optional Class Features for Artificers.

Apparently so did WotC since they could have added at least one optional feature, just as a participation trophy or something.
