Setting the cost override on a piece of equipment doesn't change its cost in the description or on the equipment table. I am on version 3.0.0-alpha.56.
Click in cost box, type new value (gold whole numbers only, no decimals/fractions), press Tab key.

I'm doing that, but the Cost in the description doesn't change and the cost isn't changed in my equipment list. It still shows as customized (with the asterisk) and the cost I set in the Cost Override box is still there, so I'm not setting it wrong, the UI just isn't referencing it.
I'm seeing the issue with the Eberron dragonshard in the below character's inventory. I'm using Chrome Version 80.0.3987.163 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 10.
Hello EricBerg, I was unable to replicate the issue on the linked character sheet. Are you trying to set a whole number cost (ie 1) or a decimal cost (ie 1.5)?
Okay, I figured out the issue. For some reason, when it added the item it had a quantity of 0. Once I put the quantity to 1, it displayed properly. Removed it and added it again and it set the quantity to 0. Same for the other dragonshards.

Hi there EricBerg,
I'm not able to replicate this issue on either the old character sheet, or the new.
Please could you let me know what browser you're using? Could you also provide a link to your character sheet where this issue has occurred?
Many thanks!

Added note, I have another character in the same game it works fine for. Maybe it is specific to Artificers?

Success! Thanks for sharing the resolution.
