I bought the Van Ritchen Guide to Ravenloft which came with the Hexblood species. When building a character with said species it does not include Hex as a prepared spell or even to be cast once per day with the Hex Magic feature. Only Disguise self appears as both. But not Hex.
Do you own or have access to the 2014 Players' Handbook? Hex is not in the 2014 free rules, so you won't have it available if you don't. (It is in the 2024 free rules, so it may be possible to make a homebrew copy that links to that version.)
Spells can't be added manually. It MIGHT be possible to link the homebrew version of the spell to a homebrewed version of the race, or you could homebrew the spell and add a homebrew feat that grants it.
That is a lot of work. I do not own the 2014 phb but I own the Hexblood race and I own the 2024 version of the spell hex. And VRGtR is being sold as compatible with the new rules. So, why is it that it only maps to legacy content? It should map to both and pick the 2024 content if it exists.
This is a bug. I paid good money for these books and the clear purpose is to use them in combination because they are compatible. I dont see how they are compatible.
I created a COPY of Hexblood. The Hex Magic trait states: You can cast the disguise self and hex spells with this trait. HOw do I modify those so that they map to the 2024 spells. Or, if I homebrew the spells, do I just edit the names and they will map to the new spells?
I am also getting a message that this Homebrew content is too similar to official Hexblood. This whole thing is a disaster. I bought VRGtR specifically to use the Hexblood race as it said it was compatible with new rules. There is nothing compatible about it. I want my money back.

Imma break this down for you.
"Compatible with the new rules" means it can be USED with the new rules, not that it's UPDATED to such. & MUCH of the book that isn't Lineages is compatible with such.
You also do not own 2014 Hex just because you purchased the Hexblood.
Likewise, make sure you're setting the copy to private, homebrew-wise. Because that error occurs when people set their homebrew to public, & the system flags it as trying to duplicate official material to bypass sales.

There's a "[ spell ]...[ /spell ]" in the descriptive text. If you change "spell" to "spells", the tooltips will point to the new version.
That'll only change the text, though. To change the character sheet, you need to go to the species traits,, find the one that grants hex, and change what spell it grants to the other version.
I am also getting a message that this Homebrew content is too similar to official Hexblood.
That means you can't publish it. You can use it fine without publishing it.

Hi thanks,
I am in the "Features and Traits" part of the character sheet and I am looking at "Species Traits". When I get to "Hex Magic" there is no option to edit the spells.
How can I edit the trait in the way you describe? This would actually solve the problem quite nicely.

Hi there,
I bought the Van Ritchen Guide to Ravenloft which came with the Hexblood species. When building a character with said species it does not include Hex as a prepared spell or even to be cast once per day with the Hex Magic feature. Only Disguise self appears as both. But not Hex.
Here is a link to the character: Vortighan's Character Sheet - D&D Beyond
