When creating a Four Elements Monk, at level three the Monk gets Elemental Attunement + 1 other Discipline. The character creator allows you to pick any 2 Disciplines there. I like the option to choose a different one if your DM allows it, but maybe there should be a note that Elemental Attunement is required at level 3 unless your DM says otherwise?
Sorry, I thought proper etiquette was to search if anyone else has posted the same thing before posting? Figured that was better than spinning up a new thread if it I found something. There wasn't an answer before, and now there is in one thread rather than having the question spread out in multiple threads. What's the downside to posting on the old thread?
I ddi't see said note in the character builder. [I see now, it's in the Disciple of the Elements text instead of where you actually make the choses—in what reads a complete separate ability under Elemental Disciplines.]
I see what you're saying about being able to swap out later. It'd be nice if the option to unlock happened when the level was reached—however I can see how that can add complexity.
I was just helping someone else build out this character and was surprised to realize there was supposed to be a limitation on choices that was neither enforced nor noted in the character builder proper.

I also just found this out. Strange that it (still) doesn't seem to work correctly.
It does work correctly. You are allowed to replace elemental attunement at level 4. And there is a note saying it is required IN the feature.
Don't necro threads that are nearly 2 years old.

Thanks!
