Struggling to figure out how to add telekinetic (or prodigy) to my homebrew race, confused as to why certain feats are offered and others aren't?

You need to own non-free feats in order to use them in homebrew. Telekinetic is from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, while Prodigy is from Xanathar's Guide to Everything.

You won’t be able to pick specific feats, I believe only the “choose a feat” subtype will work on a homebrewed race.

Thanks, I already have both of these on this account. Maybe I haven't enabled something somewhere that allows me to access them.

Ok thanks, I'll use pick a feat. It just seemed odd that I could choose some specific ones but not others. Thanks for the reply.
