On the character builder there is no forest gnome race, but there is a rock gnome and a deep gnome. I was wanting to use a forest gnome for my next Druid, what should I do?
Thank you for your post - we appreciate people taking the time to give us feedback.
The feature/subclass/race you are referring to is not part of the D&D 5th edition SRD and will need to be unlocked from the marketplace before you can use it on D&D Beyond.
I have the Player's Handbook, but I didn't realise this, and since the basic rules came up first in the search for the gnome, I thought the Forest Gnome details were missing.
Please could you show the more comprehensive sources first in the search if they have been unlocked/purchased?
Got to agree with you, Ian! When I search 'monk' it brings up a SCAG article before the monk class, or if I look up 'shove' I have to scroll halfway down the page to get the rules on shoving. I know an automatic system can never be perfect, but it can get a tad frustrating.
This is so frustrating. I bought PHB (hard copy), now I have to buy it again on here to see Forest Gnomes? It says "Players handbook" as a source in the Builder so that is clearly incorrect. I bought the Volo's guide book, I had to buy it again to use it on Roll 20 - that was bad enough. Now I have to buy it AGAIN on DnD Beyond? This is really unfriendly WotC. I can't be the only one upset by this. At least give owners of the hard copies a discount to online versions. It isn't reasonable to charge so much for a digital copy when you have no Print costs. You create it once for everyone to use online and unlock it when we pay. It should be Way cheaper. I'm thinking Pathfinder or Starfinder may be a better bet now.
I understand your frustration (and sympathise to an extent) but do be aware that D&D Beyond is a completely separate company that has just licensed the content from WotC, so as it stands there's no real way to achieve the linkage .
If you search the forums you'll find several threads with details of this .
I have to be honest. I was hoping to use this platform, but for me to pay extra to re-purchase the PHB to unlock a base character sub-race immediately disqualified it. How about, instead of unlocking Deep Gnomes which are not part of the OG 5e content, you unlock the Forest Gnome and charge extra for other stuff .... I don't mind paying by any means, but I'm not paying twice. Sorry, but no.

Only you can decide if the cost of DDB is worth it for you; it may not be and that's ok. I do want to point out that it is Wizards of the Coast, not DDB, that has decreed that material not in the Basic Rules, the SRD, or the EE Players companion cannot be provided for free. This is true of any site that provides DnD materials (such as Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds). If all you want is the Forest Gnome, you don't have to unlock the entire PHB; you can unlock any individual race for $1.99.

D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD, D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, and Elemental Evil Companion.
Content from other sources, such as the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual, will need to be purchased from the Marketplace or accessed via another user sharing content with you via their Master Tier Subscription.
