I chose the armorer subclass. As soon as you choose a type of armor the benefits apply to your character but the description of the subclass say it should apply to a set of heavy armor only. Seemingly there should be an option to choose which set of armor it applies to and only allow selection of heavy armor.
As a workaround you can edit your character and remove the Armorer specialization, then add it back without choosing an armor type, and nothing will be applied.
Development work for playtest content is usually as minimal as possible. I will ensure the team knows about this for the official release in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything.
