I doubt this is a "bug", and is moreso me not understanding the intention. But I dont understand the "Notifications" system.
I expect to be notified if someone replies to my post, or quotes my post, or upvotes my post. If I create a new thread, I expect to be notified if anyone participates in the thread.
But none of that seems to notify me!
Exactly what is the Notifications supposed to be for? Who uses it? Why?
Weirdly, I seem to be getting notifications for people who "reply" to my post, such as IamSposta, here, but not from people who "quote" my post, such as The_Glimpse, here.
That’s because a “reply” is directly to you, a quote does not necessarily have to be, it might simply be referencing something you said, but actually written to another user or to the thread as a whole. You do get those notifications, but they just present as regular posts in the thread.

For me personally, I prefer to quote the forumers who I reply to, to specify what I am commenting on, to help keep track of where we are in an ongoing conversation, while other forumers in the same thread are having other discussions.
Hit reply just so you would know I was talking about you, and to you ;)
It's a limitation with the forums software and it's doing what it's exactly designed to do.
There are better and worse forums out there, it just depends on what software the devs are using and what the company can afford.
Solasta's forums, for instance (the game is based on 5e SRD) are honestly terrible. There's no notifications, no being able to report a user for spamming, anything like that. Not even the ability to "See New Posts" Because it's a kickstarter game and the devs didn't have the money for good forums software.
I literally had to message a Dev on their Discord server to get spam posts on Vietnamese Accutrade deleted.
So, the best thing you can do here is either subscribe to every post you reply in, or just hit New Posts over the last day and see which ones you have posted in have been responded to, or check your Threads on your profile.

Go to Account, click on Notification settings and select what you want to be notified about.
It's not on by default, you have to set it up yourself.
I guess there is no option to be notified of upvotes to a post?
For notifications from a thread as a whole, I am manually picking each thread whether mine or not, within the thread itself, which is fine.

No, there are no notifications about thanks (DDB calls upvotes “thanks”)

As IAmSposta said there's no notifications for thanks, but you can see the number of thanks on your profile.

Heh. Also, if someone is talking about me (quoting what I said), I wanna know!
