I'm trying to make a homebrew quarter-caster Fighter subclass. I used the Eldritch Knight as a template and changed everything up, however I can't remove the cantrips known. Does anyone know how to modify the number of spells/cantrips known in a homebrew subclass?
That is not possible, it can only get exactly what the EK/AT get. You can add Cantrips, but not remove. What you could do is give them very specific cantrips, like Light, Druidcraft, or True Strike, stuff that might be flavorfully appropriate but not actually change their combat capabilities (because True Strike sucks that bad. Especially for a Fighter). As long as you set “Counts as Known” to “Yes,” it will take up those slots.
Your other alternative is to not give them a class list like “Wizard” and to instead add all of the appropriate 1st-4th level spells you want. As long as there are no Cantrips on their list, they can’t choose any. The only way they would ever be able to use those Cantrip slots is if the had a race* or background** that added Cantrips to their spell lists. But honestly, IMO, that would be a cool interaction to consider allowing since it would let them use what their other stuff lets them do while still omitting it yourself. Like a “I’m not giving them any Cantrips, but if they happen to get Cantrips added to their list from something else I’m not gonna stop it” mentality. Just an idea. 🤷♂️ *(like dragonmarked races) **(like the Ravnica backgrounds)
Well, you have to remove any whole spell lists you may have added, and then you need to make sure that you only add each spell once. Afterwords, re-save the entire subclass and then wait 20 minutes.

Yeah I have no problem with them getting cantrips from elsewhere, just not from the class. Thanks, I'll go through and add spells manually!
Well, I tried adding all the spells manually and now I have between two and four copies of each spell that show up on my spell list.
