Hello not sure if its a bug or if it hasnt been put in yet but i have a character who is a level 6 artificer and a level 1 sorcerer and my spell slots only seem to go to second level when in the players handbook it says i should have a level have at least 1 level 4 spell slot but it only shows up to level 2 spell slots and I have spells that can be casted at a higher level. Any thoughts?
Read the multiclassing rules again. You determine your available spell slots by adding together all your levels in the full casting classes, and half your levels (rounded down) in the half casting classes. So 1 level of sorc plus 6 levels of artificer (a half caster), would be 1+3=4. So 4 1st level spell slots and 3 2nd level spell slots is correct. Also, as a 1st level sorcerer, there's no way you'd have 4th level spells yet. "You determine what spells you know and can prepare for each class individually, as if you were a single-classed member of that class."

All correct - except that the Artificer is a Half-Caster rounded up - just to be awkward. ; )
Fortunately in this case 6 divides evenly, but I'll be interested to see what they do if they do update the Basic Rules to include artificer, or even reference it.

They would probably just port over what they already wrote:
MULTICLASSING AND THE ARTIFICER
If your group uses the optional rule on multiclassing in the Player’s Handbook, here’s what you need to know if you choose artificer as one of your classes.
Ability Score Minimum. As a multiclass character, you must have at least an Intelligence score of 13 to take a level in this class, or to take a level in another class if you are already an artificer.
Proficiencies Gained. If artificer isn’t your initial class, here are the proficiencies you gain when you take your first level as an artificer: light armor, medium armor, shields, thieves’ tools, tinker’s tools.
Spell Slots. Add half your levels (rounded up) in the artificer class to the appropriate levels from other classes to determine your available spell slots.
But there is a comma before the half level (rounded down) part that is a sentence break
"You determine your available spell slots by adding together all your levels in the bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer, and wizard classes, half your levels (rounded down) in the paladin and ranger classes, and a third of your fighter or rogue levels (rounded down) if you have the Eldritch Knight or the Arcane Trickster feature. Use this total to determine your spell slots by consulting the Multiclass Spellcaster table." PHB Muti-classing section
This shows that you only half the levels of paladin and ranger and round them down. All the classes like the bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer, and wizard just say add your levels together and there is even a chart in the players handbook at what level you would get your spell slots and by adding 6 levels of artificer and one level of sorcerer I'd be a level 7 spell caster muticlass rounded up.
The rules for the artificer, as others have pointed out, can only be found on the artificer page. It says "Add half your levels (rounded up) in the artificer class to the appropriate levels from other classes to determine your available spell slots." The rounding doesn't matter here either way, because 6 halves evenly to 3. Add the appropriate levels of other classes (1 level of sorcerer) and you get 4. Only full-class casters don't have to do any halving or rounding. The rules as listed in the PHB and Basic rules don't account for artificers, but do show you the pattern: full casters use their full levels. Everyone else uses less. Artificers aren't full casters.
