I'm trying to make a homebrew variant race for my campaign, just a little bit of flavour nod to tieflings. I've created the variant bit easily enough but it won't let me save the racial traits. Any time I fill all the page out and hit save everything just vanishes. Any ideas guys?
Are you remembering to set the “trait type” to “Granted,” or is it possible you missed that field? If you try to save something and that dropdown hasn’t been used the whole thing will refresh like you described.
That's the link to the home brew. I've created it as a Variant race and that part worked fine , however every time I try and create a racial trait filling in all the sections it refreshes the page when I click save and I lose everything.
I’m not a Mod or Staffer, so I cannot look into unpublished homebrews (but DON’T publish it!!!) I wouldn’t be able to see anything but text anyway and if you publish it you cannot fix it anymore.
There are three main ways that races work:
The way races work is that there is a Main Race, sometimes that’s it. (In that case players would only choose this.) (Like Dragonborn or Half-Orcs for example.)
If the race has been designated to have any Subraces then the traits attached to those subraces will get added onto the traits granted by the parent race. (If this is the case then players will see no option to select the parent race at all, only on if the subraces.) (Like Elves or Dwarves for example.)
If there are no subraces, then some races get Variants instead. If that’s the case then each variant has one or more features that would each replace a corespondent number of features from the parent race. (In that case that’s variants would be available as choices in the character builder just like the parent race is.) (Like Half-Elves or Tieflings for example.)
So it sounds like you are trying to create a Variant Race of another race, but that your Variant has subraces. Is that correct? That could be your problem.
So, lemmee ask a few questions:
What original race is your race a variant of?
Does your have to be a “variant” of that race, or could it just be its own parent race?
It was meant to just be a variant tiefling race, just changing out hellish rebuke and adding in a resistance. I'll try building it as a separate race and see if that lets me save thanks :)
You can totally make that as a Variant Race for Tieflings. You can but that variant can’t have subraces or anything.
Create a Variant Race for Tieflings, the easiest way is to use the preexisting Tiefling variant if you have access to it.
Create a single Trait:
Name: Test
Snippet: Test
Description: Test
Feature Type: “Granted” (not “additional or “replacement”)
[SAVE]
That will have created a basic trait. After that you can add or edit anything you like to the trait. At the end, always hit [SAVE CHANGES] under basic Information.

It still just resets and doesn't save anything though, it literally won't save.
Post a link to your homebrew so a Mod or Staffer (not me) can look into it for you. They can ever investigate unpublished homebrews.
Are you perchance running any ad/popup blockers, browser extensions, or a VPN that may be interfering with DDB?

Kk I will do and that is a very good call, I try switching those off and see if that helps, thank you very much for all this.
