I'm trying out College of Satire in SKT starting tomorrow. Some of the powers seem a bit much later down the line, but I got a lot of inspiration from John Oliver, Stephen Colbert, Samantha Bee... and thought it make things interesting in a roleplay sense. If he survives to the higher levels, I'll report back about how the powers are doing.
For those who picked the College of Lore what were the other spells you chose at 6th level?
I am currently playing my Half-Orc Bard named Barbossa and I just hit 6th level and chose Blink and Call Lightning. I wanted blink for a long time to help me be a better support to get around the battle field, and Call Lightning came about because most other elements had been taken by other magic users so I went for lightning damage. The other spells I wanted were Vampiric Touch and Hunger of Hadar. I am interested in what others thought were the best spells to go with.
I use and like the College of Glamour for my bard, as he chilled in the Feywilds for at least a couple decades and fits his character. It also combines well with my multiclassing as an Archfey pact warlock, though I have not gotten to play him with his warlockiness yet.
I love Mantle of Inspiration though, I have used it and it's temp hitpoints for my attack-first-think-later party members many times, even though they forget about it.
I have been playing a Lore Bard with my group and have had a good time with my wonderful derp dragon (Dragonborn/Gold INT=7, WIS=4) who desperately wants to be a hero. So he has some extra magic from Cleric and a Paladin spell to help him along his path to hero-dom. He has been the cause of many problems but occasionally gets his chance to shine. Teammate went to investigate this black obelisk looking thing and before he could even touch it got crit sneak attacked and went from nearly full health to rolling to live. Made a mad dash though the tentacular horror in front of us and *fwip* Dimension Doored him and myself to safety. I mean we pretty much teleported way too far away but hey he lived. looking at some other UA type options I still like my choice of Lore Bard.
Oh and never trust an idiot with a once a day flamethrower.

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
Forgive me for necroing a thread but I have quite a dilemma. I am a newish RPGer (2 campaigns) and I am brand new to D&D (on my first campaign). I am an overly intense person. Any game I play I research and min/max the crap out of. When I made my first toon in my first campaign (wheel of time) I made the most synergized badass I could. I looted every corpse and visited every armory. I'm sure I was a major disappointment to play with. About halfway into that, I realized that my play style was not fun and was annoying to others. I started to see the fun of RPing and even dying. My second campaign (Lord of the Rings RPG) I made a minstrel with almost 0 combat prowess and just sang and RP'd my way to a joyous time. So here I am, I got hooked up with a friend of my who's played D&D since the '70s. I very excitedly jumped in to be part of a new campaign. I saw Bard and without knowing a thing said, "YES!". Now I have come to level 3. I have a little bit of combat prowess but mostly support stuff. The min/max'er in me says, "How could I go with anything but Lore?". Lore looks crazy OP to me but to be honest, kinda boring. It seems like it would make the most impact on the group. Take Aura of Vitality along with Poly or some other spell and bam it's on. But Glamour seems like it would be sooooo much fun. But perhaps not very group beneficial (except in some dire situations). So I'm looking for advice. Do I go with the pure fun aspect or do I look to be a better group contributor? I suppose also it depends on what dynamics our campaign has. So far we have had a lot of plot in towns that doesn't include violence around every corner. But right now we are crawling through a pretty ruff dungeon. Help me Tom Cruise!

Go with whatever is the most fun. My lore bard's only offensive contribution in combat is Vicious Mockery (i.e. next to no damage), but we all have a great time.
I am going to go Collage of Swords, I like to second attack, Dueling Fighting style, and Weapon as Arcane Focus. Which leaves off hand for somantic components, I feel it gives a really good Swashbuckler feel for the character. I am a Drow Half Elf, with the Drow Magic working in nicely with the class while losing the sunlight being bad crap. I may multiclass into warlock Thinking Great Old One or Archfey just to level 3 for Pact of the Chain, Thinking Voice of the Chain Master and the at will disquise self invocation.
Glamour can give some other ways to interact with RP with Enthralling performance, and Mantle of inspiration allows you to give a quick boost to everyones health and give them a free movement.
Lore lets you lean on your spells more heavily giving you much more flexibility. Want to gain some more destructive power , take some wizard spells. Want some more support, grab some paladin or cleric abilities. Is your bard leaning towards some other class in terms of their actions or attitudes? Give them some spells that reinforce your concept.
I really like Lore but still have a soft spot for Glamour.

Eloquence Bard is looking cool. You can communicate with anything and can turn combat situations into RP talks. Also, you can create advantage / disadvantage to spells consistently and have a ton of bardic inspiration.

Pact selection first is good if you're planning to buff your eldritch blast tbh, but it depends what your character is all about too.

Bards rival warlocks with how much you can adjust your character concepts...
Some of my favorite characters have been bards:
Lore Bard = Bestselling novelist
Glamour Bard = Eladrin who used Fey Magic
Sword Bard = (currently) Goblin who desires to be a hero.
Whisper Bard = (future idea) In public, a storyteller who spreads ghost stories about a terrifying bogeyman / assassin...which privately, he is.
Eloquence Bard is looking cool. You can communicate with anything and can turn combat situations into RP talks. Also, you can create advantage / disadvantage to spells consistently and have a ton of bardic inspiration.
