like i checked the rules for multiclassing proficiencies and it seems like no martial class that has heavy armor as a proficiency grants you heavy armor if you multiclass into that class, so it seems like the only way for a character who did not originally posses that proficiency to gain it later in life is for them to choose a cleric domain that grants it.

i am soup, with too many ideas (all of them very spicy) who has made sufficient homebrew material and character to last an thousand human lifetimes
You could also take the Heavily Armored feat, provided you already have proficiency with medium armors. It even gives +1 strength, so it's not a total loss of your Ability Score Increase.
