For my current campaign I originally built myself a life cleric but found out that most of my party was tank so I quickly switched into the light cleric role. Burning Hands is nice and Fireball when I level up next will be SO useful when I get it. Love having some great spells from outside the Cleric's list.
Who else is running the light cleric? What do you enjoy?

Richness, in the final measure, is not weighed in gold coins, but in the number of people you have touched, the tears of those who mourn your passing, and the fond rememberances of those who continue to celebrate your life. -Drizzt Do'Urden

Burning hands is a powerful spell and channel divinity is powerful too. Radiance of the dawn saved my party and wiped out a large group of unfriendlies.
I was all excited to use burning hands in an encounter last night and only rolled it for 7 damage :(

I'm building a Light Cleric / Ranger multiclass for a campaign, looking forward to see how good he fares. Still undecided of the Ranger archetype, but the new Monster Hunter seems fun :) And yeah, not really min/maxed build, just looking to have fun with him.
My light cleric is essentially Solaire From Dark Souls, every morning PRAISE THE SUN. I'm running a Cleric/Fighter multi class. 3 in Cleric and 2 in fighter. Action surge and protection fighter, second wind. These things are awesome when you need them for those big fights. There are some times i wish i had taken a straight 5 to cleric but so far i'm really happy with the bonuses for fighter.

Warcaster would be an excellent feat for this class!

Clerics are one of my favourite classes, and I'm itching to play a concept I just whipped up for a Cleric of Milil (the Forgotten Realms god of poetry and song). I was thinking either V. Human with the Magic Initiate feat for a few bard spells (specifically Unearthly Chorus from the Starter Spells UA) or a Protector Aasimar, either way would eventually multiclass into Paladin (not sure what Oath would best fit, can't decide between OoD or OotA). Would have the Entertainer background, and the verbal components of the character's spells be singing Gospel music.
Ya my Light cleric is a V. Human, and serves Raistlin Majere from Dragonlace. Im also running a Minotaur Vengeance Pali, and early on they get some pretty cool shit, but kinda crap out at lvl 6. War caster especially for a cleric is an almost must because most of the time you'll be going around with a weapon and shield. it also lets you cast a spell as a AOO which is nice.
Just started playing Dragon Heist and I'll be (planning to be) running a Light domain Cleric. I wanted to run Life but decided Light since the book only goes to Level 5 and it looked more useful for those levels IMO.
Any tips for newbie player (in general) and very very very new baby to spellcasting (still figuring out wtf I should have prepared, didn't expect to be needing to stick to our Rogue so she doesn't die)?
Should I be prioritizing healing/buffing the party or focusing dmg? Our only other caster is a Sorcerer.
I’m currently playing a very studious and pious Dawnbringer (Light Cleric) of Lathander. I haven’t gotten to use FB yet, but I have it. Yeah radiance of dawn is a nice nuke and I leveled a room of undead with it once.
we have a podcast if anyone is interested. Look for Nat1adventures. I’m in Campaign 2.
I slightly disagree with those who put Warcaster on a Light Cleric. Certainly you're going to want that shield (with holy symbol) but you don't really need a weapon. Just keep that hand empty for spellcasting. If you're ever unfortunate enough to be in melee you have sacred flame or toll the dead to hit the enemy without having to use a weapon, and, once you hit level 8, the damage will be comparable to most melee weapons.

Radiance of The Dawn is crazy at lower levels, but quickly peters off. The problem about that ability is it scales poorly. Since it's one-and-done, it doesn't make sense for the damage to scale by 1 every level.

If you want to hold on to concentration when taking damage but don't want to charge into melee, I'll recommend going with Resilient (Constitution). The main reason I would take Warcaster over Resilient is because Warcaster lets you cast a spell when AoO are provoked. Warcaster is a better option for melee casters, while Resilient (Constitution) is better for backline spellcasters that are fearful of losing concentration. Constitution saving throws are fairly common, so gaining proficiency in CON saves grants you other benefits, like being able to resist poison, blindness, paralysis, or cold. If your CON score is odd, Resilient (Constitution) will boost your hit points, which is useful on any character.
I have played a light cleric to 20. Agree with most of what has been said.
Radiance of dawn is great at low levels but scales poorly, however we did have one very high level fight against a boss and hundred of undead minions (we were essentially on a platform and about 10 would crawl up every round there were week enough that a radiance of dawn would one-shot them and the large area (it covers twice the area of a fireball) meant it was great for keeping them in check. Having said that other than that fight after about level 6 most of my CDs were used for harness divine power with the occasional turn undead.
Fireball is great when you get it but upcasts poorly
Agree with everything Ninja said about resiliant con and warcaster, I started with 16 Wis and took resilient at 12 but nearly took it at 8 before maxxing Wis.
Fire immunity can be a really pain Metemagic adept for transmuted spell is a real option here
Burning Hands is OK but I think Fairie fire is a better 1st level spell, especially for a light cleric who would prefer not to get too close to the enemy.
I am not a fan of warding flare as you have to decide to use it before the roll and so you have to to be very quick when the DM says "The bad guy attacks you with his longsword...22 is a hit" or say is advance "if X is attacked I will warding flare it" which you wonder could change the action of the NPC (either so you use the feature or to avoid the disadvantage roll)

Just leveled up in my last encounter to 4th level cleric, Maxed out that WIS. And i took War caster at lvl 1 as a human variant! PRAISE THE SUN
Warcaster would be an excellent feat for this class!
