So I have a Druid that can turn into a Jaculi and I was wondering about the Spring Attack action. Do you get an extra 30ft of movement from the attack or does the attack use some of your movement to activate that ability like a charge feature of a beast?
I cant be certain, but i would assume that you would have to use up your movement to use the attack just like charge attacks, but it isn't worded very clearly so could be taken both ways
In the Movement section of Combat there is Using Different Speeds, which doesn't directly apply per say, but. It says you can only most up to the speed of your fastest form.
Since the Jaculi can only move 30' and the wording says it can spring up to 40' feet. I'd restrict the movement of the attack by the movement of the creature, I thinks it's ambiguous because they designers don't expect this to be a question.
If you think of it, otherwise the Jaculi could attack 60'!
I believe that the Jaculi's spring Action, being an action on its own, does not count against the movement you can take in the turn. Those 30 feet of the spring action are part of the action and not of the speed.
This is different from other beasts' feature, like the Elk's charge feature. The charge is not an action, so the combination of movement and attack grant the elk the charge feature.

It's different from charge/pounce attacks in that the movement is listed under the action. This means that you get the movement as part of taking the action, similar to how the dash action gives you movement (which isn't counted against your speed), or how a Dragon's Legendary action gives it an attack and movement.
Yep okay, That also makes sense. Rereading the attack again i see how it is different from the charge attack and am now leaning towards that it is an extra 30ft as part of the attack. The best way to get a confirmation on the ruling TheGundam is to ask @JeremyECrawford on Twitter, he is pretty good at getting back to people about those types of things.
