So although you cannot cast spells while in wildshape you can cast them just BEFORE you enter wild shape. Some good examples are Barkskin which sets your AC to 16. Some magical items (at DM discretion) may still be useable, such as Ring of Protection, but that will be dependent on whether what you changed into can still physically wear the ring Cloak of Protection would fall into this category as well. A bear or wolf might be able to but a dolphin or snake would not. Animated Shield is something that you could again activate before transforming and still make use of.
Much of this is something to discuss with your DM and see how they feel about it.

"Where words fail, swords prevail. Where blood is spilled, my cup is filled" -Cartaphilus
"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
There's also Mage Armor, which can be cast on any creature and will almost always be an improvement over whatever little natural armor (if any) a beast has.

Does anyone know of a way to raise the AC of your combat wildshape?
Like a magic item that changes shape and can be used by the wildshape as well as the druid?
