Yeah heavy weapons, I don’t think that’s a good idea(for Kensi) but 2hd sure. That’s plausible. Str based (monk) is just a fighter. Dex imo is the only thing that makes sense.
Well, other than Greatclub, which 2024 monk can already consider a monk weapon, all two handed martial weapons are Heavy so you have to take both or leave both. Then you are basically just giving Kensei what they already had.
you're right but you overlook other monks. Sōhei warrior monks are known for and primarily used the Naginata which is similar to a glaive shaped like a small katana with a huge handle. not all warrior monks fought with just sticks. the light property and simple weapon property clause should be negated by weapon mastery feats at least with maybe strength requirements.

a whip is a simple weapon.
Whips are classified as martial weapons.
Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
