Okay, so. I recently started to play D&D a little over two weeks ago. And one of the people im playing with said that there setting up a one shot and for us to make a lvl 10 Character, and that we could have one or two magical items. I chose a Wood Elf Ranger of the Hunter type. I have the Bracers of Archery for a +2 dmg and +2 Longbow. With the +2 Bow my to hit is 12, without it's 10. Im going to see if the +12 is fine for the one shot or if they'd like me to bring it down and choose another magic item.
SO! my question is what item should i choose if the +12 is a bit OP for the one shot?
Was thinking either the Boots of Elevnkind for silent walking and Advantage on Stealth Checks (my stealth is a 8, and with the 10 from Pass without a trace that's basically 18) or the Ring of Protection for a +1 to AC and Saving Throws (bringing my AC from 16 to 17)
I don't believe that an attack of +12 is too OP for an archer of your level.
Did you take the sharpshooter feat? If so, the damage can be quite impressive with the -5 to attack for +10 damage.
Certainly, if you feel it's a bit much, you're going in the right direction by considering what else is important to you, such as being able to move stealthily or being better protected. I think you're working along the right lines. :)
yeah, like a cloak of prot or a ring of prot, stealthy would be cloak or boots of elven kind. you are getting bracers just for the +2 damage and already proficient with short/long bow. if bracers were also +2 to hit, they would be worth it.
The one that immediately came to mind is blazing bowstring (if your DM will allow homebrew). Can be used twice per long rest and adds fire damage to your attacks used with it. But if you want the boon to stealth then go for the cloak of elvenkind or the boots of elvenkind. I'd also suggest a Quiver of Ehlonna as an alternative. Gives you extra storage capacity for your ranged weapons. For one of the rangers in my party I've given them the opportunity already to get the blazing bowstring and a homebrew called the Sidhe Blowgun (he bought a blowgun in a town we were in once so I gave him the opportunity for an upgrade). He'll have a chance for another magic weapon at a higher level that's also a homebrew.
Oathbow is excellent when paired with Sharpshooter, just save the big effect for the boss fight, since you can only use it on one creature per day :)
As for any other magic items, just think about what aspect of your character you want to boost. If you're purely thinking offense, then yeah a magic bow and Bracers Of Archery would probably top your list. Do you want to be sturdier? Maybe consider magic armor or an Amulet Of Health(which raises your Constitution to 19, with the corresponding HP boost). Sneakier? Cloak or Boots of Elvenkind. There's lots of ways you can go, so just think about what you want to be better at and find an item to help. :)
No one is going to take a swing at the soft underhand pitch of "ranger" and "one shot" used in the same post?!
Ring of spell storing. I think this magic item is much more valuable to rangers, paladins, eldritch knights, and arcane tricksters than full spell casters.
I also really need some magic item for ranger ideas
Whatcha looking for? Oathbow, the quiver, elven boots/cloak, and ring of protection are the standard ranger gear set. Also, arrows of slaying. Did you have something else in mind? Different play style?

thoughts????
I'd double-check with the DM to see which kinds of magic items are available. The bracers of archery are uncommon, but that +2 longbow is rare. The DMG suggests, for a high magic campaign, that PCs begin with only one uncommon item. At 11th-level that jumps to 1 rare and 3 uncommon.
If your DM is allowing for only 1 uncommon/2 common or 1 rare/2 uncommon, then that's going to limit what you can start with.
Bracers of Archery is only a bonus to damage where the +2 longbow is both to hit and damage and counts as a magical attack for bypassing resistance or immunity.
I was having trouble at one point deciding between a flak of elvenkind and cloak of protection when someone suggested neither and take the cloak of displacement instead. It is a rare item but that disadvantage on every attack against you is huge. If the DM will let you have 2 rare items I would take the +2 bow and the cloak of displacement. The bow is +2 on attack AND damage so the bracers aren’t so important. If you can have only 1 rare item take the cloak and a +1 weapon (I am assuming you took the archery fighting style since your talking about a bow) . If the DM is allowing it take Tasha’s additional ranger spells and take magic weapon so when you are forced into melee you can have a magic weapon as well. If you can talk the DM into 3 items then a +1 melee weapon, a +1 ranged weapon and the cloak should set you up nicely.
With the 3 I listed it shouldn’t have any effect since none really affect your flying.- the cloak just has to be loose when flying so it runs down your back but the magic should still work fine.

Oathbow is good, better than+2 longbow (in my opinion)

I'm using a Ranger as well, but with me having an Aarakocra Ranger, how does that change the effect of the magic items?
