Fellow rogues, I need your assistance! A DM I play with on a semi regular basis is going to run a christmas themed one-shot. He's actually asked up to make as power of characters as we can, so I want to know what the most powerful build I can make on D&D beyond is. All books are allowed and stats are generated with with point buy. Other than that, he hasn't given us any info. The best I've got at the moment is either mastermind or inquisitive with variant human for feat?
If all you care about is fighting in featureless planes with good lighting dealing maximum damage then play a Variant Human Arcane Trickster with Crossbow Expert, Sharpshooter, and learn Haste. Use your Haste attack first, then your bonus action attack. If you score a hit during your turn, use your regular action to ready an attack on someone else's turn for a second Sneak Attack.
If someone in the party can give you advantage on attacks reliably, then instead of Variant Human go with Half-Elf or Wood Elf and also take Elven Accuracy. That'll greatly increase your chances of hitting, scoring crits, and makes it practical to use Sharpshooter on your bonus action attack for extra damage.
If someone else can also provide you with Haste, then you can change your subclass to Scout for Ambush Master.
But if you plan on being sneaky, there's a lot to be said for the Thief and Assassin subclasses.
Fire elemental form, stay behind party, your the torch. In combat dash action (if enemy are far away) bonus action disengage. (cunning action) move 100' (2x50) through every enemy and back behind your allies (squeeze through space is fine with this form and so you dont have to burn them if you dont want to) Every enemy touched/torched automatically takes 1d10 damage and no hit roll, they are on fire for 1d10 on their turn and must use an action to put it out.
Repeat as necessary, why roll to hit when you can auto hit everyone?

This amused me. Do it as a Tabaxi or Centaur for extra movement!

Narrow it down a bit :) what level are you at?
Level 15. Sorry, I should have mentioned that ^^;
Most powerful for what?
