Mostly got the idea, when I was looking which bloodline would suit my Fire Genasi*. First, I thought of the Draconic Bloodline, but the "sprouting Dragonwings" sounded a bit unfitting for him. :/ Not that it doesn't sound cool, just not fitting for what I had in mind for his ancestry.
*First when I was looking for a class for him, I was looking on D&D wiki and wanted to go with Arcane Warrior, but my DM didn't want to use homebrew. So I told him, I'd just like my Genasi to be able to craft jewelry, so my DM proposed I should try Artificer. We played 1 game so far, but sadly the group kinda broke up, cause we couldn't get our schedules to work. Anyway, I found another group, where I'm playing a wood elf Druid (Circle of the Land (Coast)) and love it. Casting spells was exactly what I had wanted for my Fire Genasi, so I was thinking of remaking him as a Sorcerer instead.
I keep trying to make a Venom/Carnage type of character starting with sorcerer, It's not easy really to be combat focused with Primal savagery, thorn whip, Spider climb, Web, Mobile feat, and have a high Strength/Con to boot! usually build a fighter/sorcerer combo....but always come away a little disappointed.
Can we get some kind of Parasitic Bloodline? One way is like Venom/Carnage, but other ways could be a parasite living within/on the caster that confers some abilities. a Dark Passenger of sorts.
Maybe granting a Con based Casting ability? or Dex/Con Armor class? (I really think Wizards missed the boat on Sorcerer that is 'Bloodline' based not being a CON caster), can provide either martial abilities or more spell abilities. (I lean more Gish personally).
I think an origin based on former Illithid control. Something psychic related.
This a cool idea.... What kinds of things would be required for this subclass? Telepathy, Psychic attacks, invisibility, control abilities? or Control resistance (since a former Illithid slave)
Perhaps others can chime in and we build a home brew idea here?
If it weren't for the Circle of Dreams druid, I would say I'd like to see a fae-touched sorcerer, with a deep connection to really ancient magic. That said, I do like the idea of a planescape sorcerer who draws power from the multiverse (probably a bit too wide of a scope though).

Just off the top of my head:
1st level Flavor: GOO Telepathy 60 feet
1st level power: Proficiency in Wisdom and Intelligence saves.
6th level: Output a Psychic disturbance within 10 of you, dealing half your level in psychic damage to creatures of your choice, whenever you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st or higher.
14th: Cast Levitate at will, 1st level flavor becomes 120 feet and creatures can respond now.
18th: As a bonus action after you cast a spell, you can use 4 sorcery points to output a mind flayer blast with your spell save DC.

I would probably expand this have an Aberration/Far Realm focus rather than specific to Illithids. That way it could include creatures like Beholders and Aboleths.
A Genasi Bloodline would be distinct; similar to a barbarians "Battlerager" being dwarf specific, you could only gain the bloodline with genasi.
You'd gain extra spells in accordance with the element of your lineage, the ability to "shift" into a djinn-like form that gives you temporary flight, and perhaps a Wish-lite ability that let's you cast a spell of 18th level or lower once per short rest (further expanding on a sorcerers lack of spells known). Perhaps resistance or even immunity to elemental damage of your origin plane.
Hmm...the djinn races also tend to take slaves a lot...perhaps a short-rest use of "Dominate Person"...?
I really like the ideas others have mentioned about the illithid and hag bloodlines.
I would also like to see a doppelganger-like Sorcercer whose powers at high levels include being like Clayface: being able to change shape of your body, but not into beasts or monsters. It would be more like Alter Self at will with the ability to choose slashing, piercing or bludgeoning damage boost and get advantage at Athletics checks to grapple b/c of how gooey your body can become.
How about a purely underwater Sorcercer? I know that people think of "Storm Sorc" when they think of a high seas campaign, but how about a Sorcercer for Tritons, Sea Elves and Merfolk? Possibly with electric-eel like powers: Shocking grasp that can be channeled through a copper weapon twice per long rest? While underwater, you might be able to detect invisible creatures (also underwater) by sensing their electric fields. Perhaps also a Waterspout ability that is basically like a super Jump spell, but only from water. Spout your way onto the deck of a passing ship to initiate a surprise attack!
Yeah, pretty much.

Why would the Dream druid prohibit that?

Slave contact maybe... How about a failed conversion? Tried to make an Illithid out of you but failed?
Telepathy, Yes. Psychic attack, yes please. And I'm thinking their levitate ability.
