SCAG added new suboptions to a preexisting subclass, by adding the Tiger and Elk totems to the Totem Barbarian. If 5e ever got a draconomicon-like supplement that added Gem Dragons or 4e's additional chromatic/metallic dragons to the game, corresponding options might be added to the Dragon Sorcerer, too.
However, I'm wondering how good/bad of an idea this would be.
Force-dragon ancestry, for example, would become stupidly bonkers with Magic Missile and a 2-level dip in warlock for Agonizing Blast.

Starting at 6th level, when you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, you can add your Charisma modifier to one damage rollof that spell. It wouldn't be something super unbalanced. Even the Agonizing blast would only give that 'double' charisma bonus to one of the hits from Eldritch Blast. Yeah that is useful, but no more so than hitting them with Fire Bolt and getting to add the charisma to the hit once. There is the metagame of very few things have force resistance vs fire resistance (or other elemental resistances) but even that isn't a huge deal. Probably the most notable one would be Psychic damage boost, Vicious Mockery would actually deal some damage. A few other psychic spells that deal damage and have secondary effects would probably benefit the most.

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
I've always thought that a Shadow Dragon Sorcerer would be awesome. Like the sorcerer version of the trickster cleric. For people who don't want to be bothered with the complexities of having to multi-class a sorc/rogue. It's flavor would be very similar to the Shadow Sorcerer, but would be more dragonborn-specific in nature and not dependent upon summoning a hound in every fight.
The breath weapon would do necrotic damage, and you would have resistance to necrotic damage. And you would get 60' darkvision.
At level 1 you would get proficiency and expertise in Stealth, and either proficiency with simple weapons or the ability to cast Darkness without using a spell slot by spending a sorcery point.
At level 6, when you reduce a creature to zero hit points, you heal a number of hit points equal to your level in this class. If you reduced the target to zero hit points with a spell that dealt necrotic damage, your healing is doubled.
At level 14 you get the "Shadow Walk" ability just like the Shadow Magic Sorcerer gets.
At level 18, you get the "Umbral Form" just like the Shadow Magic Sorcerer.
Just a thought.

I agree with your assessment of Eldritch Blast, but Force Dragon Magic Missile would be fairly strong because you only have one damage roll. Each missile then deals that much damage.
This is because it's a multi-target spell that deals all it's damage simultaneously. It functions more like a Fireball than a Scorching Ray.
That said, it wouldn't be more powerful than an Evocation Wizard who can do literally the same thing (and Overchannel). It would make it easier to do Hexblade for the curse cheese though.
Edit: Woah. I necro'd a month-old post. Forget to check how old some of the front page threads are. Sorry.
one month is not a necro, a year or so is though. but it is still an interesting discussion.

The damage types not already covered by the subclass are Force, Necrotic, Psychic, Thunder, and Radiant.
Which damage type do you think would be the most balanced to add as a subclass sub-option?
And if WoTC added such options to the dragon sorcerer, would you allow them in your games?

I read magic missile as separate rolls for each, since it specifies the darts deal 1d4+ damage. *Shrug* anyone have an official ruling?
i roll them separate personally.
