Please excuse me if this has been asked before, I searched back as far as Page 25 in the Wizard forum and couldn't find this discussion precisely, BUT, what does your Manifested Mind look like? Im about to make my first wizard and I really like the feel of Order of Scribes. I usually like to put my own creative twist or flavour on class features to really make it my own, but at this stage I really can't get past the visual suggestions given in the source book:
It looks like a ghostly tome, a cascade of text, or a scholar from the past (your choice).
I can't get past the scholar from the past, like a spectral illusory face of a bald, bespectacled fella with a goatee. Which is still pretty cool, but not ... original. How have you themed or described the visual aspect of your Manifest Mind to make it truly yours?

I did originally think of my Manifest Mind looking like a big paper clip often asking if I "need help with that" just to make my best mate DM cringe every time... but even I can't get past the naff quality of that haha

Personality wise, the Manifest Mind likes to use Evocation spells…and will complain in a thick Scottish accent whenever the Wizard uses a spell that ISN’T evocation.
The Manifest Mind will begrudgingly like a different spell, however, if it wreaks enough havoc on the enemy.
So far, they have liked to use “Dragon’s Breathe” spell…imagine a red, holographic dwarf head cackling with glee as it spews fire from their mouth.

“Oi, this one ain’t thah bad…! BURN, ya sh*ts!!”
To note for future readers - this is not RAW, so check with DM.
The Manifested Mind is an "object" ("you can cause the mind to manifest as a Tiny spectral object") and Dragon's Breath can only be used on creatures ("You touch one willing creature and imbue it with the power to spew magical energy from its mouth").
Also check with DM about the Manifested Mind being vocal as by RAW it cannot speak or hold a conversation. The best it can do is share what it sees and hears telepathically.
The book remains an object and not a creature. Nothing in any text, not even the intro flavour text, actually states it grants any sentience or sapience.
It's not as fun, and most DMs will handwaive this but for those with a "RAW only" type DM, this subclass will be considerably less fun than you initially think.

Hmmm, you're right. I hate to say it, but you're right. That is a very not-fun approach to the ability, but it is how its written. There are those DM's out there who stick to those types of rules interactions quite vigilantly. Im very happy in our little bubble of playing for the sake of fun, not "winning". Rule of Cool for me thanks. haha

Yeah, it was quite disappointing when I noticed. Personally, I'd find it funny to see the book being RP'd, even without the Manifested Mind. Like it was whispering in the wizard's mind, and finally at 6th level the wizard gets to share with the group what they've had to put up with all this time and prove they weren't insane all the time spent talking to a book

For Edward Merryspell, my manifest mind is a ghostly disembodied head that looks suspiciously similar to (but not exactly like) Edward himself; I call it Headward Merryspell. It looks similar to (but not exactly like) Edward because he's actually another wizard's clone and doesn't know it, so the manifest mind is actually of the original, but since nobody knows that yet it just seems like a family resemblance. 😂
Since it's an easy feature to forget to move, I agreed with my DM that it would move by default (unless I need the bonus action for something else), and somewhat has a mind of its own. For example, if I send it ahead to explore a room, and that room turns out to have books in it, the head will usually be found having become distracted and looking at them to see what they are. It's a fun way to inject a bit of character without necessarily messing with the mechanics too much.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.

That's so cool! Exactly the sort of creative ownership, flavour flair Im talking about!!! VERY cool idea of being the clone!

For my wizard/artificer Shokhon I have two levels in Art for homunculus. My familiar is Jake the owl. My homunculus is named Steven and becomes an armour around Jake with with a mouth on the chest that allows both to talk. My DM has allowed me to make a custom stat block combining to best traits of both. When I hit level 6 in wizard my Unseen Servant, Marc the spector, will become the manifest mind of my spellbook. He will join the stat block and become a set of blue eyes appearing on Jake above his black ones.
The PC is approaching lvl 6. When they get there the tome will manifest. It will call itself VOLIS (Vol. 15) and when directed, it will obey. While left to its own devices it will comment and offer (usually) unhelpful information about the situation at hand. It may go on diatribes and tangents of its own making. The wizard may need to bargain with it to keep it quiet.

I imagine it talking smack during fights.
But what does it LOOK like? :)

It manifests as a softly glowing book that turns its pages to show a different "expert" on whatever subject or situation that presents itself. The experts appear as past teachers, professors, and craftsmen. Each has a personality that closely resembles the original person though it does not have any personal information.
I feel like WOTC put this out half baked. It would be so cool to have it be a creature, not an object, with sentience, and most DMs interpret it that way, (as I would) but RAW it’s not. If they are worried about balance, maybe make it take the place of a familiar. (Use the RAW version if you want a familiar, or give up a familiar to use a sentient version. But it would need an INT/wis/cha score- how would that be determined?
hoping in the new system modifications they tweak this without nerfing it

if i say something inflammatory the intention is not to trigger an emotional response and the fact that it does so is purely accidental and I sincerely apologise if it does
Mine looks like Lyla, Miguel O'Hara's (Spiderman 2099) AI assistant. Basically a beautiful blonde woman similar to Marilyn Monroe. And pint-sized. (Similar to her Across the Spider-verse version) As soon as I read that feature, I immediately remembered Spiderman 2099. Her personality is a naughty librarian. Serious but also flirty.
