Would you allow steel wind strike being the contingent spell and the 'tigger' being to cast haste? All fit the criteria of cast on self and would allow a wizard to take combat to the baddies.

As I mentioned in the other thread, if Steel Wind Strike is used as the contingent spell, you can only attack yourself with it, so while it's technically allowed, it's not very useful.

Steel Wind Strike was already mentioned and I have already explained it is not a good use for Contingency.

Steel Wind Strike may target only you, but it affects others. 

Contingency states the contingent spell can only have an effect on you. So, yes you can certainly store SWS as a contingent spell : but since it is blocked from affecting anyone but you, it would be completely useless to do so.
