What I really hate about beyond's homebrew thing is that it's filtered alphabetically. This means that the front page is literally flooded with Arnachona or however you spell it variants. This makes it so unless your thing starts with an A or a symbol, no one will ever see it. I really wish they would change it as I don't exactly like being forced to abuse the filter.
When searching for homebrews you can click “show advanced filters” and then folks can do more detailed searches. But for the whole list, there is no better way to organize than alphabetically, because people are used to that.
Edit: I was wrong, I misremembered things and gave inaccurate information. (I may have been confusing the homebrew filters with the filters for official content. Or maybe I was conflating the sorting options with the filter options. Either way, I was wrong before. Sorry ‘bout that.
Yeah, and I have found rating to be as much (if not more) a metric of popularity than of quality, whereas I find “adds” tend to be a bit more indicative of how good something is. My guess it that many folks often upvote a thing based on first impressions and add it, then if it turns out to suck people will remove the thing, but they likely don’t go back and un-upvote that ‘brew. Other folks may not upvote something but they’ll add it, and then if it turns out great they’ll keep it, but they probably don’t go back and upvote it. Unfortunately we cannot filter the searches by adds, but we can at least sort the results that way.
To combat that pyramid effect that you mentioned it can also be useful to inversely sort your search results by number of views. That way you can see the least views homebrews first to know you aren’t just contributing to the pyramid effect.
I personally wish they would let us filter by both adds and views in addition to rating, being able to combine those filters would be useful. And being able to sort by publication date would be handy too.

I agree with this, since sometimes I find homebrew with tons of views and upvotes that's not as good (IMO) as one with less views and less upvotes.

I prefer to sort by rating myself, but that suffers from the pyramid problem (those at the top get the most attention).
