There should be a dropdown that lets you pick, like, what version you are playing as. It could have like "DnD5e, DnD 1.1.2, DnD 1.1.5," et cetera.
That way the 5e players won't lose their legacy content, and people can still play on older versions, while chosing to play as the new version as well.
I imagine there would be a switch on each character's settings page that switches between which base ruleset to use in building the character. There would probably be a new filter on different Game Rules sections. The books will always be in your sources if you've bought them like the legacy books are now.
I highly doubt that the group I'm in is gonna switch to this new version, and I would like to keep using this site.

thoughts:
most people online are like beholders. everyone has a different opinion, and they think everyone else has an incorrect opinion. they will fight you over it, usually without thinking. try to avoid beholder fights.
Credits for my profile pic go to Micro Bihon, this guy who does a lot of fan art for the band Good Kid (among other stuff). While I'm at it, listen to Good Kid. They make some pretty great music.
