Titles, what do they do?

What is the reasoning behind giving us titles?

What are the “mechanics” of acquiring them?

I got 12 titles already what is the point of them?

You gain more titles as your number of posts goes up. They are just for fun, as far as I know.

A bit to much though ;^)

They are just for fun, though maybe one day they can be more :). 

Its just an extra incentive to be active on the forums etc. Nothing wrong with it imo

It feels like hyperinflation. Meaning 0 value added to user experience.

Hyperinflation is fun.... Until someone gets hurt.

They are essentially bragging rights.

 Kind of like a mini "find all the unlockables" game. That would be neat.

They're just for fun, really. It's a pretty standard thing for many popular forums.
