Trying to start a new adventure with new players so we made characters on DnD Beyond. That process is easy and great. Downside: No one wants to use electronic devices just to read character sheets so I exported PDf and printed.
WOW! You would need reading glasses and magnifying glass just to read most the print. Totally unusable. Been wracking my brain on how to fix this issue. I got acrobat pro and tried multiple different ways to edit font and delete text boxes to make more room for bigger font an so on. Could not get any of it to work. Try converting to word or excel and it is just a mess. Guess I could copy and paste just the text into a word document but that will take a while and not be organized as nicely https://mobdro.bio/.
Has anyone had any luck with making putting character sheets from DnD Beyond onto paper and have it be legible???
Yeah, sadly, I haven't found a good sheets yet. I'd like to have the class/race abilities + the spells included, but not many sheets included that or if they do, there is almost no space for the longer stuff (but there is almost always a half of page box for allies or char. description).
Agree completely. I normally use the electronic sheets - there’s a lot to be said about being able to edit them on the fly and having different tabs to help players sort through information quickly (provided you are on a computer or tablet; the mobile version is not the most user friendly due to the small screen size and plethora of information on a character sheet). But I recently was playing somewhere I knew there would be limited internet access and printed and it was a mess, with small text, missing information like what spells do, and a considerable amount of space taken up with the layout rather than with functional information. I had to collect and print additional information, such as what spells and items did, which really should have been printed in the first place.
Yeah, that’s why they made the app to be offline accessible, so people wouldn’t have to print them.
While true, sometimes offline also means “not somewhere you can readily use electronic devices” as well. Both options—and offline mode and a legible printed version—should be available as they both fill different niches.

Hey, we’re lucky DDB has a printable option at all. They originally designed the system for people to all sit around the same table with their iPads to play. Print was an afterthought born of necessity. They don’t really give a 💩 about printable sheets, they only support it at all because they have to for the folks who can’t use digital athe table. (Which frankly I don’t understand myself personally, my table all use digital sheets and it’s not a problem. But I guess that’s not or everyone. 🤷♂️)

I know some groups who request paper sheets because their players get distracted on the internet, which makes a lot of sense to me. That distraction is not a problem at my tables, but I can see how it would be at others and how those players probably do not need the myriad distractions the internet can provide.

If they’re that distracted, how interesting can the game be? Maybe there’s a better solution than banning electronic character sheets. Just sayin.’

I am not sure that’s fair - most of the complaints I get are from folks like teachers DMing for middle school students (who are objectively the most distractible, least behaved demographic), or groups where I know at least one of the players has ADHD issues, so no amount of interesting story will hold them if they have an infinite cosmos of distraction at their fingertips.
Outside of the rare situation where electronics are not an option, it is not a feature I would want to use - but it is certainly a feature that should be functional for those who want to use it, and it is decidedly dysfunctional as things currently stand.

With kids I can understand, but I have ADHD and I manage to pay attention during a session. 🤷♂️

The issue is, they use the stock 5e sheet for their PDFs instead of making something custom to contain all that information
