More than likely something that stands a better shot in a future edition, but is there a way to match up physical copy buying with digital? The amount of books already out feels like this is a lost cause at present, but having shelled out a lot on physical copies, but frequently playing online/having a quick reference on here would be wonderful. Dropping a lot of cash on content I already technically own (albeit with a slight discount) seems a bit...odd. Could logging in the barcodes or adding a QR code be a way to do so? Aware I am spitballing, but it would really be a great if something like this was implemented!
As per your last suggestion: Barcodes would be easy to fake since they're unique per product, not per unit of the product. QR codes would require them having done that already. Another issue is this site isn't owned by the company that made the books and got your money, they license and produce the information in another format. The closest possible thing that could happen is that since Amazon is the owner of the owner of the owner of this site, they could see if you bought books directly from them (not a 3rd party seller) and treat it like the Kindle discount on Audible audiobooks, but I doubt it would happen since the site has been doing very well from what bits they've revealed.
I'm considering buying some (or all) of the books digitally via the marketplace, but I'm wondering what they look like. Are the digital versions just PDF copies of the physical books, and can I copy paste entries from them into a program such as Realm Works?

You also then have access to whatever content you own via the global search feature (instead of showing it as a purchase being required) and, for some bizarre reason, they made the pages fit fairly well into a print-to-PDF functionality, so you can print pages off if you really want.

Keep in mind that
1) you get more than just a digital version of the books here: you get all the content you purchase here in the character builder and in the listings tools (spells, monsters, items). That may or may not be of sufficient value for the cost for you, depending on what you are looking for and what your budget is, but DDB is far more than just digital reproductions of the books.
2) you don't have to purchase entire books, you can just purchase (or even homebrew) what you need. The buyer's guide link in my signature lays out a wide variety of purchase scenarios to help folks think through what might be the best options for them. If you are trying to sort out whether or not DDB makes sense for you, or what you "need" to purchase here, the guide might be of help to you.
I didn't see it answered exactly, the reason the OPs suggestion hasn't been implemented (and probably won't ever be), is because DDB is not owned by WTC. Unless something changed that I hadn't heard about, DDB is run by Twitch.TV. The content is only licensed out. The only way a system of "I bought the physical book, give me a digital copy" would be even considered is if WTC buys DDB.
As for it's worth, like others said above, it depends on your usage and what you want to get out of it. I love the character builder and being able to pull those up on a screen. quick search for a reference in the various books is also extremely helpful.

Appreciate the responses everyone and I had a feeling what the answer would be but never be afraid to ask a stupid question!
Thanking you kindly for the guide ArwensDaughter - I will give it a look-see and go from there.
