Are there any plans to introduce paid homebrew to DDB? I'm asking especially for products like Matt Mercer's Gunslinger. I know that the current situation requires each player to create a homebrew of the class themselves (similarly to how dozens of people have recreated Way of Tranquility by now), which means we can't publish them, and need to do all the work by ourselves, and not everyone is savvy enough to do so.
It would be a good idea to have paid third party support, so authors of content can get paid and we don't actually have to do that work all over ourselves. Just a thought for the future. I guess the answer will be no, of course.
They've said they want to do this, but there's not timeline or ETA. As I understand it, the roadblocks are primarily in terms of licensing/copyright agreements, and those take time to work out. In the April Developer Update, Badeye said we should see more stuff from Matt soon, but he implied it is stuff Matt is polishing, not necessarily already published stuff.
Currently, Kobold Press is releasing a Kickstarter sourcebook of spells. They had options for roll20 and FG. Sadly, no option was available for dndbeyond, which is kinda sad. I wish they could consider collaboration even if it means I'd pay for it :s
The problem is licensing. DDB has a license with wotc as official toolset provider. Providing paid third party content might create the incorrect assumption that said content is official.
Also an agreement would have to be reached between all three (or possibly four) parties; DDB, Wotc and the content creator (and possibly any existing publisher such as Green Ronin for the Tal'Dorei Campaign Guide). It's not impossible, but it's very difficult as everyone needs to be happy
Hey!
