I shared my sheet link to a friend, but when they look at the sheet, the don' t see all the tabs and a bunch of stuff is grayed out. What gives? Why is this functionality limited? I needed to share my background info, but your sheet hides that stuff.
I've spent too much on your services to get limited functionality like this. It's highly disappointing to create a public character sheet, share the link, only to have the recipient not be able to see the most important parts. That's ridiculous.

First of all, take a deep breath and calm down.
Second, you haven't spent anything on the functionality of those sheets as those tools were created and developed for us to use for free. :)
The only person besides the owner of the character that needs to see the background is the DM. As soon as you join a campaign on DDB, the DM can see all of those tabs. Those tabs are kept private from others so that your character can have secrets from the other PCs, and so that you can have the opportunity to roleplay telling the others about your backstory if you choose to without them being able to read it as spoilers.
This is not “limited functionality,” but instead active design implementation. It’s on purpose.
It would, however, be nice to be able to toggle that feature off. I do want to share some characters fully with friends, and end up having to export as PDF - I'd rather just send the link.

They are working on implementing that feature, but Lord kno s how long it will take.

Poor choice. If my DM is not on DND Beyond but I want to show them my sheet, that 'On Purpose' "fEaTuRe" is more of a detriment.

Considering that DDB was originally intended for use by people who were sitting around the same physical table with one another, I guess they never figured it would be a problem. But like I said to Angahareth, they are aware that people want the change, and they do plan to add a toggle to that so we can turn that feature on and off. They just never announce ETAs on stuff.

That's a fair point. I'd love to see a VTT from them, etc. I don't really expect a 'when' on anything, but a 'we hear you' is always nice, like on the Dev Updates. I love those.
I absolutely agree. And they have said “we hear you” to others about this issue before. I can’t pull a link out of my butt or anything, but I know they have commended on this exact user concern in the past. This is basically me saying “they heard others, and it applies to you too” on their behalf. They get busy and I got time, so why not.

Ok that works. I should prob get better at not getting cranky when things don't work as I expect.

I am sure @Davedamon can explain what gives and why you don't need to share that.
