One of the most frustrating things I've found on the forums is the difficulty in posting images here.
I only found out a couple weeks ago that my new phone can access the toolbar (by going landscape) that my old phone couldn't. I still haven't figured out how to post images correctly.
What would make it a lot easier would be if the subscription included dedicated memory to upload images to our profile page which we could share directly on forums. What I'm suggesting here is that a basic level would get a little storage, and the top level a lot, which would encourage image posters to upgrade their subscription.
I mean, i can upload my profile pic, character pics on the character creator, and in homebrew, so what's the problem with uploading to forums?
I'm just really frustrated with this. Some people have been trying to help me with a couple things, but I can't even show them a screenshot to demonstrate the problem.
I do have a pinterest account. I can post a link to those images here, but if there's a way to post those jpegs here, i can't figure it out.
And that's what I'm saying with this thread, we shouldn't have to go through a 3rd party. I was just trying to suggest a way that DDB could show a profit by instituting a feature that should already be part of the forums.
You don't need an imgur account to host images there and thus link them through to the forum, but you can host an image from any site as long as you have the direct image URL. Here are the steps for using imgur (without an account), but for any other image service, you can skip to step 6 (these steps assume windows desktop, for mobile the process is different)
Right click and copy your image
Go to imgur.com. Don't sign in
Press Ctrl + V. This will immediately upload your image, no account needed
Give your post a time (this will let it generate a URL
Click copy link to get the direct URL (alternatively, right click the image and select Copy Image Address)
Go to your forum post where you want to embed the image
In the toolbar, click the picture icon (fourth from right, between the broken link and the youtube icon)
This will open a dialogue box, paste the URL to your image in the Source field
Important: ensure the url ends in either .png or .jpeg (or another image file type)
How does that work on a mobile device? Drawfonaf is on an android and I’m on an iPhone. I don’t know about android, but there is no Ctrl + V on an iPhone. I can’t paste anything without a field in which to place the curser.

For the imgur part, I use the app which automatically gives you a URL when you upload. I don't know if you can use the app without an account, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could.
Then, when it comes to posting, turning your device sideways to access the full toolbar. It's a little fiddly (you need precise taps), but you can still access the relevant dialogue.
guys....just use google Photos. It is so godsdamn easy. you just upload, copy the address and write it in. Plus there is an app I think.
If you're copying the preview URL from google photos, it'll be a low resolution image. If you're using the 'Create Link' option, that'll be a link to the image within the album and not an embeddable link. Google Photos generally doesn't host images in a way that plays well with the embedding tool on the forums
I am very familiar with the additional options available in landscape mode, so that’s not an issue.
But I don’t download apps. Any time an app is free, that means the user’s data that the app collects is the product being sold to other companies. So I will never download the imgur app. Heck, I barely trust DDB enough to download their compendium app, and only because I am a paying customer accessing material I payed for, so even though the app is free, I still feel like a customer and not a product. So, what are my options besides downloading an app I don’t want from a website I don’t trust?
I must admit that I also find it baffling that I can use google to log in to DDB, but not to host my pics to embed into my forum posts on DDB.
I'm afraid I can't really recommend anything as I exclusively use imgur for my phone. You might be able to upload on the mobile site, but to be honest, most things like file uploading are done via apps nowadays.
Ok it works on mobile (Samsung galaxy a50 (android).
Find image
Tap and hold. I had no option to copy image but I could copy image url which might have been enough but I have an imgur account so I saved the image (red dragon).
I went to imgur, logged in and uploaded image. I copied the url (by clicking a button next to direct link). Came to forums and used photo icon to insert image.
As you can see above it worked. My only note is that it may be easier to use imgur in browser's desktop mode. If your phone supports copying image rather than needing to save it then you can follow davedamon's guide. Tap n hold is same as right-clicking .

That’s because most people are unaware of how much of their lives those apps record to be sold off later.
I'm completely cognisant that if I'm receiving a service for free, I'm either paying with my data, or having adverts delivered to me. If I value the service more than either or both of those things, I consider it a worthwhile exchange. For example, imgur has adverts (and a premium model to remove said ads), which I find an acceptable trade for the utility I get from the app.

I've been using imgur and it's app for years. My account is over 10 years old and I've been using the app for about 3 years.
Never had any telemarketing, no increase in spam, nothing. If they're selling my data then the people buying it aren't doing much with it.

I think we're at risk of going off topic here, so should probably keep things on the 'how to upload images' rather than the cost/benefit analysis of image hosting apps
I use the free level of Imgur for hosting images to be used by 3rd parties. It works on my mobile devices for hosting images here, too, but as mentioned, the forum has limitations by width and the toolbar for posting in the forums will disappear completely in narrow views such as a phone in portrait/vertical orientations. These configurations are unaffected by "mobile/desktop site" settings on mobile app browsers browser apps.
My experience is that there are 3 levels of width configurations on the forums with the intermediate level moving the menu bar into a single drop-down menu (and removing the party wizard). The most narrow level removes the toolbar, profile block, and "Like" button. Usually for me, turning the device sideways goes to the intermediate width configuration and restores the toolbar, profile block, and Like buttons to the forums..

Sigh. Looking at imagur. To upload from device requires android app or IOS app. Here's a straight cut & paste
*For some reason even THIS isn't working!*
Ok, I'll type it out.

I've already got too dang many apps on this phone. I'm NOT going to uninstall the DDB app to make room for Imgur!

First, you have to host the image on a site like http://www.imgur.com (google won’t work), and then you can post them here.
