Preferred pronouns.
It would be useful, if the left side of each post, where the name, avatar, and title are, would also add a field to communicate ones preferred pronoun.
Public Mod Note
(GPyromania):
Moved from Bugs & Support to D&D Beyond Feedback.
In addition to ones gender, which the pronoun also conveys, the thread also mentioned being upfront about sexual preference. Maybe an optional field.
For gender, as far as I understand, there are four main genders that represent most humans.
• Male • Female • Both (Gender Fluid) • Neither (Gender Nonbinary)
But also add a fifth field to write in an other gender identification, instead of, or in addition to, one of the four.
Sexual preference can be complex, and I get surprised by self-identifications that I was unfamiliar with. For example, recently, "asexual panromantic", which makes sense, but I would not have thought of. For self-identity, maybe something like.
• Likes men • Likes women • Likes both
And maybe an other field as a qualifier for each.
• Sexually • Romantically • As a buddy
The additional self-identity can be optional.
But the preferred pronoun is kinda necessary, when in discussions in a forum where gender is often anonymous.
Like I wrote in the other thread, I would prefer if even preferred pronouns would be a strictly optional field. Not everyone should be obliged to participate in that practice if they do not wish to. The whole point is to promote attentiveness to an individual’s preferences. If some prefer to not disclose their pronouns, they should not be obligated to IMO. I mean, there’s no need to accidentally make anyone feel excluded in an attempt to help others feel included.

Well said as usual.
I'm a straight male. I don't feel the need to introduce myself with anything other than, "Hi, I'm Dave."
But my best friend is a demisexual female. Another member of one of my groups identifies themselves as "they" so it would be good to have as an option for players to have.
Also, in addition to choosing one of the four genders, an additional qualifier might be helpful:
• Cisgender • Transgender
Which relates to correlating anatomically with ones gender.
I think this would be silly and unnecessarily woke to have all this in our forum. Why does it belong here you think? We are merely online characters communicating together. I don't think we need to label our real world selves for all to see. I personally don't like being labelled as cisgendered, even though I know it means straight, I label myself as a straight guy, but I don't feel people need to know this about me. In general, do we have issues with people being intolerant here?
I don't know, is there support for signatures in our forum? If so people can put it there in freeform text if they so wish. If there is no signature support, then perhaps that should be implemented instead, such that the signature field can support multiple functions. You can state your preferred pronoun, and I can list my different D&D characters. I think that'll be a more worthwhile time investment.
EDIT: Just found out that we do indeed have signatures, just created one with my characters in it. That seems like a perfect spot to put your preferred pronoun. It even works retroactively on your past posts, so everyone will know how you like to be adressed if you put it in your signature. You can edit your signature under your profile.

Just want to point something to help you be better informed; cisgendered doesn't mean straight; it means you identify as the gender you were assigned at birth, as opposed to being transgendered. You can be cisgendered and hetrosexual or homosexaul or asexual.

While it seems like an easy thing to do (but "seems like" and "actually is" often violently disagree with each other), the question I have: Is it necessary when we have signatures - free accounts even?

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.

I currently see other users list their preferred pronouns in their siglines. Unfortunately for mobile users, siglines are only visible in landscape orientation, or if the browser is zoomed out to 50%. So while I think siglines would be a perfect place for those, not everyone can see them.

I'll be happy to pass this along :)
(Heh, feel free to correct the typo misspelling in the title of this thread!)

Relating to pronouns, when needing a gender nonspecific pronoun (while translating), I find myself using:
• one
• the one
as least awkward English options.
One must love oneself. Only then can the one know how to love others.
he / him
I would appreciate this as well!
