I wasted quite a bit of time creating a homebrew race, and two subraces. Apparently they show up separately in the character screen and that's just how it is. Okay. I updated the names of the subraces because I updated them, now the old ones show up in the character creation screen and the new ones do not. The link to the details page is broken because it is trying to link to the old version page that no longer exists. I looked at some of the forum posts from the last couple years and this seems like par for the course, and has been going on for some time.
I suggest anyone creating subraces just makes each one its own race to save frustration, especially if you're just wanting them to work properly. This is something that should be addressed rather soon though, existing for this long and being a major part of homebrew.
Did you publish the race? If not, then re-save the whole race so the system picks up the changes to the subraces.
If you did publish, then yeah, you’re kinda stuck. This is why I used to tell everyone to not publish any homebrews until fully finished playtesting and editing when at all possible. But people kept telling me to get stuffed and let folks do what they want so I stopped.
No, I didn't publish it. I'm not intending to publish this one, just use it for a player. I ended up just making a new race using the previous one I made as a template, built the race/subrace combo as a race without a subclass, saved it, and deleted the originals. Works pretty well. If all the different homebrew race subclasses are going to show up independently in the list and not in a drop down there's no point to struggle with the broken subclass creation system.
