If you pull up the variant human in the homebrew races, it gives the option to add a feat under the modifiers. However, feats are not included in the drop down menu of any other races. Since many DMs like to give their players a feat at first level, it would be convenient to be able to create variant copies of the races that add a feat selection at creation.
Hi Bluebean and Jacqsynn, thank you for the feedback.
Either this has been fixed since you posted this or else you may not have found the correct way to add one.
When making a racial trait, click onto Add A Modifier after initially naming it and adding a description. When on the Add a Modifier page open the drop down menu and find Feats in the first box. From there you can choose a preset feat or give them a choice. I have added an image to show this in this post's attachment.
Let us know if that does not work for you. Either reply here, or perhaps check out this thread here for everyone to learn from.
My apologies let me start from the beginning. I was creating a homebrew race trying to add a feat that the race would have naturally. This is where I ran into the issue. I serched the forum for a solve and found this thread. It worked fine for skills as I said but when I used it for feats it did not. I thought it was a level issue so I made it available at a higher level, this didn't work either. Unless I'm missing something I'm at a loss.
P.S. Please don't get me wrong the site is amazing and I'm getting ridiculous amounts of fun out of using it, as are my players. I'm just now starting to find kinks that I want to try to find solves for. It's just in my nature :)
It sounds like you can “add a modifier.” Can you choose “Feat” under “Modifier Type”?
Do you see feats listed under “Modifier Sub-type”?
Does something go wrong later? If so, where and when exactly?
I have the same issues. When selecting any "feat" (select a feat works fine) the character sheet and stats are unaffected. All feats do not work in the builder when creating a race.
-So, with the additional comments, I did some testing, and this is what I found:
-it appears to work correctly if the modifier is set to Feat>Choose a feat in the Race homebrew editor.
-It does not work correctly if the modifier is set to Feat and then a specific feat is chosen in the editor. (I tried Lucky and Magic initiate)
-The feature is listed under the “race” section of the builder, but no detail is available beyond what is entered in the description and snippet section
-similarly, the trait is listed under “feature and traits,” but again, with no access to the actual feat information
-in the homebrew race editor, the specific variations of magic initiate (druid, wizard, etc.) cannot be chosen; only the “generic” magic initiate feat. Furthermore, in the character builder, there is no way to choose the relevant spells for magic initiate. On the other hand, if the race is set to let you choose a feat, you can choose a specific magic initiate feat (druid, bard, etc.) and then properly select spells.
Hopefully a staff person will see this and/or a mod will pass this info on.
A number of the modifiers in homebrew are tools built to work only in specific areas of the site, as these are tools transposed from those the team uses for entering official content. Currently for races that modifier only works with Feat -> Choose a Feat, there is not currently support for selecting a specific feat and granting it automatically.
If you'd like to grant your player a specific feat, you can do so by using the "Manage Feats" section of the character sheet, which will allow them or you to freely add whichever feat they choose/qualify for. :)
Ok, I understand, thank you for the clerification. I know this is not high priority exactly so is there hope on the horizon for a solve to this?
Thank you Arwen for understanding what I thought was strait forward but ended up being WAY more complex than originally thought, sorry for that.
The longer term roadmap includes a homebrew revamp. Hopefully this is one of the things that will be addressed. But I wouldn't expect it this year given that it is long term.
None of the feats are working for me and i have tried many diferent things to get it to work. So i would disagree with the resolved on this thread.
This. I created Homebrew Races. Added trait with Modifier, Selected Feat option then the specific Feat I wanted the race to have and though it is on race description it does not show up on the character. (Bauraean Dwarf example - Fan the Flames Trait)

TBH this was the most helpful part of this post and still is the case, so here is a bump cause exactly what I was looking for.

I also noted this as well

My homebrew: [Subclasses] [Races] [Feats] [Discussion Thread]
It is working now. Thanks for the update!
I am trying to get the Tough Feat added onto a race that I am building and the "Choose a Feat" works, however the "Tough" Feat does not.

Not working for you how?
To add when making homebrew race (the original request of this thread)?
To add outside of ASI progression on the sheet?
To add instead of an ASI on the sheet?

Inside, same method as stated above by VillainTheory. Skills and other listed items work though just not feats.
Following VillainTheory's instructions it works fine for me. Can you be more specific about what doesn't work and/or where the problem crops up?

I dont know, thats why I'm here.
I can and it's there.
Feats are present.
Feats do not show up on character sheet nor do they modify anything as if present.
By the way thank you for your help I was unsure I was going to find any and be hunting throught threads for answers.

You can not give the feat you want, but if you select the feat it will come up in character creator so you can see which one to select.
