I'm new to D&D I'm about to start my first campaign. We're starting at level 1 but I like to think ahead. When I reach level 5 I was thinking about multiclassing. I'm planning on using an Echo Knight once I get to level 3. I've narrowed it down to two choices, Hexblade Warlock or a Path of the Beast Barbarian. What should I decide on, I've heard that Hexblade might be a little difficult for beginners but looks like it's up to my alley. If anyone could help that would be great.
Can’t answer the “optimal” question, but a few things to think about:
-Make sure you have the stat prerequisites for those choices; For Fighter/Warlock, that means at least a 13 in STR (or DEX) and CHAR; for Barbarian, that means 13 STR.
-Some Barbarian features rely on being unarmored. Presuming your character is armored as an echo knight, this may create some issues for you.
-Be sure sure to read through the Warlock entry carefully. Warlocks do NOT work like other spell casters, and the number of spells slots they have are limited. Lots of people miss these points and then are frustrated with Warlocks.
