Don't be a jerk, as the discount code isn't on Youtube yet. Which is were a large number of Critters get access to their content. Specially after this boondoggle of a first discount code! Wil Wheaton would be disappointed with you Stormknight.
The NEW discount code for 25% off one purchase is "Invisiblewand" not case sensitive. Not sure if one word or two, but try both.
Thanks everyone for your love of the DNDBeyond product and the wonderful cast of Critical Role and the content they create! Here's to another beautiful champagne and partnership with a great product!
I hope we don't repeat this mistakes in the future, and this hasn't tainted your view of either the product or the content that Critical Role creates. #roll-on
Stormknight wasn't being a jerk. The episode is on youtube, I am looking at it right now. Sure, it wasn't live when he posted, but honestly, it is not that much difference having to wait 3 or four days to watch the stream on youtube, or sooner if you subscribe on twitch. That is part of the perk of watching it live, you learn about it sooner! There was no mistake in any of this. A coupon has been provided, and the place to learn about it is from the stream, whether you watch it live or after. Putting the coupon here ruins the whole point of advertising the coupon in the stream and doesn't encourage people to actually watch critical role.
It's not the whole point of the code to draw people to watch the episode on Youtube or Twitch. Sure it is one of the possible effects. But I'd wager that it is a smaller one, since, if you hear from the code, through some discount site or forum, you'll probably also just get the code at the same place. Nobody expects for a word to stay unknown on the internets and banks a business decision on that.
The main point of the code is to get watchers of Critical Role to try out DndBeyond. It's a cross promotion to get people go from Critical Role to DndBeyond. The whole interaction goes mainly in that direction since we DndBeyond users do not get a lot of benefits in regards with Critical Role. To clarify: Using/Paying for DndBeyond does not make your Critical Role experience better (you could argue for the extra class to be partially in that direction, but it's free and it only offers some better insight about the class, not a vastly superior viewing experience).
So posting the code is really not that bad a thing to do.
Yes you need to be subscribed to GnS's twitch channel to watch the episode before it's put on YouTube. However the channel typically does reruns on Friday and throughout the weekend

Curse and Critical Role are partnering up for this season of the show.
As part of that partnership, Curse has made up some discount codes that Critical Role can give out so that Curse can say to their existing user-base "Hey, go check out Critical Role's new season. If you do, you'll catch a discount code that you can use here." Incentivizing D&D Beyond users to give being a Critical Role fan a chance.
And Critical Role using D&D Beyond and passing out those discount codes is the other side of that partnership, telling their existing fan-base "Hey, go check out D&D Beyond. If you do, you can use this discount code to get you some content there." Incentivizing Critical Role fans to give being a D&D Beyond user a chance.
To that end, I agree that just handing out the code, rather than sending someone that wants it to go watch 1 episode of Critical Role (or less if they insist on just finding the code-giving moment and not actually watching the show) to get it is undercutting the point of the code.
I would even go so far as to say it's being a bit of a jerk, because people getting a discount is supposed to be the means - not the end.
Pity.. I bought the bits I needed without the discount.. now I find a quarter off.. I should have waited a week I guess.
Less than happy about that.. there being a gap between codes and no indication that there may be more in the future was poor process and comms from both parties.

How many companies advertise an upcoming coupon? The grocery store doesn't tell me to wait to buy my green beans because there is a coupon coming Friday. When the coupon is released that is when you learn about it. If you consistently have coupons and advertise all of them then what is the point of selling your product at full price? You are constantly telling people to not buy anything until a certain date.
TophlophYou're ideas are right in everything you said. However he didn't say that, and if you're new to the show, which many are since it's a new campaign, a better way to say it would be:
"There is a new discount code, it is said at the beginning of episode 10, currently only available on twitch, but will be available soon on youtube, keep your eyes peeled!"
If your goal is to help people when they are confused, you need to be able to provide context and direction. Specially when the situation was already FILLED with confusion and miss communications.
As for advertising, the goal is to get people to use your product. Which either way, they will. DND beyond's twitter blasted the code on twitter at the same time as the airing. So it was public in that regard. So it wasn't even a video exclusive in their own eyes. So most of what your fighting for doesn't make sense.

AaronOfBarbaria You are correct if it weren't for the fact that DNDBeyond's Twitter blasted the code at the same time as the airing to the entire public. So there was no mutual incentive to go watch the show.

If you are referring to this tweet, then that is a follow up to the tweet before where they said they were working on fixing it as it wasn't calculating. Also, the tweet was at 8:34, not the same time they announced it in the video. They didn't blast it because it was being advertised. They were saying "this code is all fixed and ready to go!". They didn't blast the "beginnings" coupon code so I will still hold to my original ideas.
Are there restrictions to the use of this newer coupon, such as only on full books? I am receiving the error message "Code does not apply to anything in your cart", yet couldn't find any parameters assigned to the use.

Agree to disagree about posting the code not being a bad thing to do. Congrats on the books though.

The discount is not applying to the legendary bundle..is that intentional, because it's already discounted?
It's intentional. It would be strange to buy a 15% discount with a 25% discount, wouldn't it? It would also be nice, but also strange.

It doesn't apply to any of the grouped and discounted multiple books. The standard full books, it should apply.
Ass with a past. I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to play D&D and get killed.
So only full books, not picked and pulled content? (i.e. SCAG subclass bundle or something similar)
I am the Inquisitor Imperitus. I am judge, jury, and executioner. Draw your last breath now, as I send you to the Nine Hells.
So the code does not work on Yawning Portal?
It will work as long as you are buying the full source book. Not just one adventure from it.
