In the past you could purchase just the races, classes, magic items, etc. from a new book release. Am I just missing it or are these options not available with the new Dragonlance book?…
Individual purchase options are only made available once the book releases. The official release date for the book is December 6th, which is actually stated on the product page, and so individual purchase options will be available then.
What was made available today was the Digital/Physical bundle early access version.
How do I go about getting Kender as a playable race? Is it possible to do this without buying the book Shadow of the Dragon Queen?
Individual (a la carte / piecemeal) purchasing is no longer available.
You will need to buy the whole book or be in a campaign with somebody who has it where somebody has a Master tier subscription and enabled content sharing.

This is ridiculous, I want to unlock the ability to create a Kender character for the campaign that my friend is running (he has the physical book) but he doesn't want me to peek at the campaign manual nor do I want to spend $29.99 USD for a campaign book that I will never run and that I can't really look at.
Allowing the ability to unlock races and classes "à la carte" seemed like a really good idea for cases such as mine. I am growing more and more disappointed by DnD Beyond the more I use it...

Thanks! I got confused when the date was and rushed to judgment!…
S'all good, this is the first time we've offered something like this so it's natural that it'd be confusing.
