According to SCAG, there are 5 half-elf variants. “If your DM allows it, your half-elf character can forgo Skill Versatility and instead take the elf trait Keen Senses or a trait based on your elf parentage.” The four variants based on heritage are there (high, wood, aquatic and drow) but the fifth one (“forgo Skill Versatility and instead take the elf trait Keen Senses”) is missing.
That choice is a mistake on the writer's part. Skill Versatility gives you proficiency on two skills of your choice while Keen Senses gives you proficiency in Perception; it's a bad trade.
