"Spend 49.99 on an entire book that would have costed little to nothing before and only eat pack noodles for 2 weeks, or don't pay a thing."
I feel as if they would have made more money just increasing the prices of single characters and not making a package deal out of this mullock. Newcomers would have to make a huge investment on something they may not even like, left with an excessive amount of money spent. As a newcomer myself, I have thought of just getting details of this character for a character sheet online using free methods. WOTC is being way too greedy with these prices. Maybe I'll just go back to a real game that doesn't have paywalls this big.
well that sucks im trying to get my 11 year old son into dnd but im not will to pay 60 bucks for a book to see if he likes it not to mention id have to buy one for myself to play with him

D&D is free to play. If you want to see if you/he likes D&D, just use the free options. All "how to play" rules are free. There's several races/species free. Most classes are free with one subclass each free. Hundreds of magic items are free. Hundreds of spells are free. And so on. Even some adventures are free.

yea i get that but he wants to play a goblin and i cant change his mind (its my fault I've called him a goblin since birth) i just don't want him to loose out on playing a great game because of something so silly turning him away
There are free goblin monster statblocks and the basic takeaway is that goblins may get stealth proficiency, 60 ft darkvision and "nimble escape" letting them dash or hide as a bonus action. So, you can always homebrew it. Not the same as the official goblin, but still means they can play a goblin.
Or take the halfling species and rename it to goblin.
It's a game of imagination. Whatever you need and don't want to pay for, just re-invent for your own game and make it with the homebrew tools. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

$30 for a race? That's not going to happen.
To be fair, if enough people are willing to do that, it could make them more money.
